The young lad (David Borst-Smith, his dad EC Borst-Smith worked for #BMC / #Rover as a publicity manager and wrote many books about cars and trucks for Ladybird as a side hustle) from the "this engine is woke" meme (originally from a Ladybird children's book of the 1960s) is still alive, and now lives in USA!
The car is a #Wolseley 15/60 and the "woke" engine is a BMC (British Leyland) B-series from the days when #Britain still had a #car industry *and* strong trade unions, so perhaps the meme is true ๐

The โBourdon Montrougeโ badge is usually associated with the #Citroรซn #TractionAvant, coming from one of the largest Citroรซn dealers in France. A very popular accessory for Traction owners.

@vinc @davidwilkins Iโve seen the #Wolseley illuminated in Ireland on a vintage 6/110 (I-6, 110 bhp). It was cute and classy on a lovely old British motor car. Discrete and elegant.
The illuminated Mercedes-Benz grilles Iโm seeing now are none of those things. They epitomize everything that has gone wrong with Mercedes-Benz positioning since 2015. Crass bling. Pity, because the interiors are lovely.

Another favorite of mine from that era is the #Wolseley 6/110 from #BMC, with itโs illuminated badge on the front grille. That, too, is making an appearance on multiple brands recently, but other than the VW EV version, I donโt like those at all, especially the Mercedes-Benz version.

My name is Mike Deal and Iโve been a #photojournalist in #Winnipeg since 1997.
I live in the #Wolseley neighbourhood with my partner, Ariel, and teenage daughter. We have three #cats, Kitty, Philip, and Twig.
In the summer of 2019 I got interested in #Watercolour #painting and when the pandemic hit I really started to explore #art to help deal with the increased anxiety. Recently I started to learn about #OilPainting. I may post photos from work or from my personal art journey.
