«El material reproductivo de las hembras se ha obtenido a través de los Centros de Recuperación de Fauna Silvestre, que dan apoyo al programa de conservación del lince en la naturaleza. La coordinación proporcionada por las comunidades autónomas de Andalucía, Castilla-La Mancha y Extremadura, el MITECO y el Organismo Autónomo de Parques Nacionales, ha hecho posible la obtención del material reproductivo de machos y hembras necesario para este trabajo.
La investigación partió de los ovarios rescatados, que se transportaron refrigerados al laboratorio para obtener la maduración de los ovocitos en condiciones controladas. Se consiguió fecundar estos ovocitos y así generar embriones que fueron criopreservados mediante vitrificación y que actualmente están almacenados en el biobanco del lince ibérico.
“Ahora necesitamos desarrollar métodos para transferir estos embriones a hembras receptoras, lo cual contribuirá sin duda a potenciar la diversidad genética de esta especie”, apunta Ana Muñoz Maceda, investigadora predoctoral en la Universidad Complutense de Madrid (UCM) y autora principal del trabajo.»
