  4. @ChrisMayLA6 Sir Humphrey’s old rule was to never launch an inquiry without being sure that it would report the answers you wanted. Kemi #Badenoch has boasted of how she stitched up trans people by making many hostile appointments to ensure that the #CassReport said what she wanted it to say.

I would be very surprised if Wes #Streeting had not done the same.

The rise of authoritarianism is a natural development of neoliberalism, these two things have created the poly-crisis we are in at present. These things feel threatened by the rising awareness of #UnityInDiversity and with it a return to connection we have lost as a result of the domination culture and it's systems of #patriarchalcapitalism & #statesovereignty these two things are struggling to keep going just as we are struggling to identify alternatives. But we are developing them and the tipping point of the new planetary experiment/experience is coming closer. We are on our way home.

  14. @ChrisMayLA6 Please don't dismiss that as mere kite-flying!

A 3-year sentence threshold will still cover most of the cases currently heard in Crown Courts. It remains a devastating attack on the right to #TrialByJury.

  15. @ChrisMayLA6 As an ex #localgov officer I'm in two minds about this, because on the one hand it's a further centralisation of power, but on the other it does make local government budgets easier - and if the government wants people to see actual improvements quickly on the ground, in their communities, then funding councils is the way to do it.

What planet is she on? Everyone else is predicting a crash driven by the AI bubble.

  21. @ChrisMayLA6 To be fair, leaking like a fleet of hyperactive fire engines is a mighty good distraction from the core issue that #RachelReeves has no strategic desire to dismantle #neoliberalism.

Reeves has no goal to reverse the torrential flow of wealth from poor to rich, or to tax assets instead of work, or to reduce #rentseeking, or end private profiteering from #publicServices and utilities.

But the leakfest is a great distraction from the strategic vacuum.

  22. @ChrisMayLA6 Yes! That reliance on the #EU to avoid domestic debates also applied to the #ECHR. e.g. both gays in military and #genderRecognition were explicitly based on #ECtHR rulings rather than on democratic debate, even tho both were easily winnable at home.

And of course, the UK has never tried to de-imperialise. Most Brits are staggeringly ignorant both about imperial history and global revulsion at #BritishEmpire.

Both Labour & Tories speak of Britain "leading". Imperial entitlement

#ReformUK remains popular thanks to a set of rightwing propaganda barrages creating demand for radical responses to alleged crises. The number of unrepentant brexiters still exceeds the level of ReformUK support. In any case, failure is explained away, blamed on #remoaners, immigrants, #trans people etc

Given the intensity of the rightwing propaganda and the abject failure of both Red and Blue Tories, it's amazing that Reform is poĺling at only about 30%, not 70%.

  24. @ChrisMayLA6 More than three decades of #LabourParty strategy has been developed in the framework of #triangulation. They assumed the left had nowhere else to go. That framework is now broken.

To respond, #UKLabour needs not just new tactics & new strategy, not just new language to address people who for 30 years have been told to eff off.

Labour a whole new understanding of its fundamental purposes and relationship to voters. But current leadership has no clue how to even think about that.

  25. @ChrisMayLA6 I think this scenario is v unlikely.

1/ local projections of national polls make #NorwichSouth a neck-and-neck Labour/Green marginal. V risky for any Lab candidate.

2/ #AndyBurnham would be rejected by NEC as Lab candidate unless he swore loyalty to #Starmer, but that would sink Burnham.

3/ voters hate being taken for granted, and a stitchup like thus would face some local fury.

So I think this is a non-starter in that seat. But #CliveLewis is smart. What is he playing at?
