The UK only just stopped paying off the descendants of the owners of slaves in the 2010's.
Prime Minister David Cameron's fam were one of the beneficiaries if I recall, obviously the Royal Family.
So when the British State gives it "we couldn't possibly track down all the Slave owning families after all these years" trick, it will be bullshit.

Ja, @angeldruckt - wie auch der Name Mittelmeer (lat. Mare Nostrum, Unser Meer) aufzeigt, bilden Gewässer nicht nur Grenzen, sondern auch Verbindungen. Genau so, über die Meere & besonders den Atlantik, breiteten sich das Britische Empire & damit auch der Westminster - Parlamentarismus aus.
Gerade auch bei der Betrachtung des Alpenraum - Föderalismus während der Covid19-Pandemie sprang mir die Bedeutung der Geografie für das menschliche Denken brutal ins Auge. Churchill sprach ja nicht zufällig in der Schweiz. Wir sollten uns wieder stärker für Landkarten begeistern, meine ich.

You made me look again at the chart two years later. The "analysis is based on CO2 emissions from the burning of fossil fuels and cement production, along with land use, land use change and forestry (LULUCF)."I only now noticed two other magnitudes:
* I would have expected NZ historical emissions to have been smaller (now i suspect deforestation).
* India's figures are minuscule.

In 1877, one of the strongest El Niños ever recorded was associated with historic droughts across Asia, as well as in parts of Brazil and northern Africa. These droughts, “along with colonial policies, contributed to famines in many regions which were really devastating,” said Deepti Singh @climatechirper.bsky.social.
