I found this a refreshing read -- so much more in contact with what is happening today and what ought to happen tomorrow than Blair's reheated New Labour stuff.

  6. I want to like #CliveLewis MP more than I can manage. Somehow, he always disapoints as more cautious than I expect.

But I did hugely enjoy his description of #Starmer’s "reset" speech. Vogon Poetry is the 3rd-worst poetry in the world, which is roughly where Starmer fits in a ranking of leaders.

  11. @JugglingWithEggs #CliveLewis is indeed interesting and thoughtful.

And yet, I usually find that he has something about him of takeaway food: always less satisfying than hoped, leaving me disappointed.

It's not just his refusal to repent of military service. Somehow, he always avoids following through on his thoughts. Deep inside him, there's some lack of confidence.

  16. "The former shadow defence secretary Clive Lewis said: β€œNo one disputes the need for diplomacy with the US. That is realpolitik. But rolling out a state visit in the middle of an illegal war, led by a man doing profound damage to democratic norms, is not diplomacy; it is a profound misreading of the moment.”"

  21. Why is #CliveLewis?

The #LabourParty MP for Norwich South is a good critic of #neoliberalism, and of public alienation from politics. He is right that proportional representation could open up politics, tho like most English critics of #FPTP he seems unaware of the importance of #STV.

But all he seems to do about it is 3 or 4 articles per year in #TheGuardian and a few TV appearances.

Radical change requires sustained hard work to build movements. Clive isn't that.

  26. @ChrisMayLA6 I think this scenario is v unlikely.

1/ local projections of national polls make #NorwichSouth a neck-and-neck Labour/Green marginal. V risky for any Lab candidate.

2/ #AndyBurnham would be rejected by NEC as Lab candidate unless he swore loyalty to #Starmer, but that would sink Burnham.

3/ voters hate being taken for granted, and a stitchup like thus would face some local fury.

So I think this is a non-starter in that seat. But #CliveLewis is smart. What is he playing at?

  31. Better still, ditch Labour, keep your seat and become a Green.

I don't see Burnham moving to a southern constituency either and parachuting in outsiders is a bad look.
