  1. @ChrisMayLA6 Yes! That reliance on the #EU to avoid domestic debates also applied to the #ECHR. e.g. both gays in military and #genderRecognition were explicitly based on #ECtHR rulings rather than on democratic debate, even tho both were easily winnable at home.

And of course, the UK has never tried to de-imperialise. Most Brits are staggeringly ignorant both about imperial history and global revulsion at #BritishEmpire.

Both Labour & Tories speak of Britain "leading". Imperial entitlement

  2. E-Rex (she/roar) has been having issues with getting roar Pangea birth cert updated, so she was looking forward to this presentation.

Afterwards she sat down for a minute to let it sink in.

  3. Damn ghouls itching to make themselves the genital police.

If this amendment passes it would effectively negate the Gender Recognition Act for official records. :flag_trans:

  4. UK Supreme Court judgement sex farce

Judgement to clarify biological sex ducked the issue. Anyone with a knowledge of biology beyond primary school level will know that biological sex is not simple. XY women? XX men?

Did the Supreme Court not think to ask those who wrote the Equality Act what they meant?

"A former civil servant ... Melanie Field, who oversaw [the Equality Act's] drafting and passage through Westminster in 2010, said the legislation was meant to give transgender people with gender recognition certificates (GRCs) the same legal status as biological men or women."

  6. The 2023 annual report for Irish Gender Recognition Certs is up.

341 were granted in 2023, bringing the total to 1544 since it commenced in 2015.

And there hasn't been a single concrete negative consequence to cis people in Ireland that I'm aware of from trans people having their gender recognised legally.

I am generally out of touch with news – I’ve basically stopped looking for the sake of my mental health

So I got a nasty double shock when I received an email today from the Scottish Green Party’s Maggie Chapman (Equalities spokesperson) and Jen Bell (Co-convenor of the Rainbow Greens, the party’s LGBTQIA+ group):

    1. Apparently, 12 days ago a Court of Session judge ruled that the UK government were entitled to use section 35 of the Scotland Act 1998 to overrule the Gender Recognition Reform (Scotland) Bill on 17 January 😳

(The GRR had been on the verge of becoming law, after the Scottish Parliament voted 88–39 in favour of the Bill on 22 December last year)

    2. The Scottish Government, who brought the Court of Session case against the UK government, have revealed today that they will not appeal the judge’s decision 😞

Instead they propose to keep the Bill in cryogenic stasis until such time as a trans-friendly UK government agrees to respect the Scottish Parliament’s democratic process

  12. #Labour's #deputy #Leader #AngelaRayner: #Genderrecognition #reforms not at odds with #womensrights overall.

Labour’s deputy leader said protecting women-only spaces does not need to come at the expense of supporting transgender people.

    - She talks about protecting women-only spaces — hint the unspoken part that is being left off there is “from trans people.” Labour is just as institutionally transphobic as the Tories are.

  13. CW: Re Gender reform Scotland

What else could he do? I Expect the Greens would've walked if they didn't challenge this. I'm not hopeful they'll win a court challenge considering how hell bent Westminster is on making Trans a central scapegoat target issue but we can only see.

  14. After Finland, now #Spain introduces self-declarative #genderrecognition. (Scotland would currently have beaten them to it had our transphobic government not blocked it—a helpful reminder of how badly this country has gone off the rails on this issue.)

  15. Excellent speech from @chican3ry calling for #GenderAbolition not #GenderRecognition and calling on the crowd to go further than trying to reclaim #GRAreform, which was Tory policy under Theresa May.
