Objective Measurement

It sounded so good.
Goodbye to subjective evaluations like "Could try harder".
Hello to "Afsahna has demonstrated competency in Module 7 of the 3rd year curriculum." Or "The residents have all received their medication by 10am every day."

But it became all too obvious that focussing on what can be measured objectively, in any bureaucratic environment, has the subjective side of things discounted & defunded.

Or worse. As the #CassReport showed.

Dr Hilary Cass has garnered a certain level of infamy in British politics over the last couple of years. In 2020, she was commissioned to conduct a review of NHS gender identity services. Upon completion, the Cass Review made some quite startling claims that ended up propelling her into a major voice of gender politics in Britain.

@ChrisMayLA6 Sir Humphrey’s old rule was to never launch an inquiry without being sure that it would report the answers you wanted. Kemi #Badenoch has boasted of how she stitched up trans people by making many hostile appointments to ensure that the #CassReport said what she wanted it to say.

I would be very surprised if Wes #Streeting had not done the same.

"The Cass Review, lacking expertise and compromised by implicit stigma and misinformation, does not give credible evidence-based guidance. We are gravely concerned about its impact on the wellbeing of trans and gender-diverse people."

Dass die Evidenz für viele Krebstherapien nach dem GRADE-System ebenfall "schlecht" ist, hat aber noch niemanden davon abgehalten, Krebskranken zu helfen.

Exactly as predicted, the #CassReport has had a chilling effect on #TransHealthcare generally, beyond even its scope of support for #Trans and gender non-conforming children.

The report was commissioned by the openly transphobic Conservative Government of the day and deliberately excluded trans voices and experts in #GenderIdentity healthcare.

This political attack on medical care for young people is disgusting #WesStreeting

"The World Professional Association for #Transgender Health, which has been integral in influencing guidance in several countries, slammed the report for its “selective” and “inconsistent use of evidence” adding that it “deprives young trans and gender-diverse people of the high-quality care they deserve, & causes immense distress and harm to young patients & their families”.
