We should move away from github and here is why: https://sfconservancy.org/GiveUpGitHub/
As far as I understand publishing docker images should also be possible woth gitea, forgejo and codeberg. I haven’t tried myself.
https://docs.gitea.io/en-us/packages/container/
Forgejo is a “soft” fork of Gitea with a focus on scaling, federation and privacy under the umbrella of codeberg.
Those popular projects that do want to self host might want to use a CDN to reduce costs.
Codeberg and sr.ht are alternatives for those who do not want to self-host. I am not sure if it is easy to use sr.ht for publishing docker images.
https://codeberg.org https://sr.ht/
Towards a federated future for software forges.
NLnet supports the ForgeFed project and forgejo is implementing their protocol. https://nlnet.nl/project/ForgeFed-RPC/
ForgeFed is a federation protocol for software forges and code collaboration tools for the software development lifecycle and ecosystem. ForgeFed is an ActivityPub extension.

I agree. I like #codeberg a lot. I donate.
They have limited resources and the pages server is overwhelmed.
As I started to put pages in to use the doc was slightly discouraging. But one of the main arguments is to turn it off, or at least state its unreliablity up front. I am ready to turn it on. But I'm not going to now.
I'm going to try #statichost and use codeberg for my repos. It doesn't hurt me.
For big projects in need of a site, this seems to be problematic. GitHub and gitlab have spoiled people and raised expectations.

https://www.theverge.com/news/612857/codeberg-open-source-code-far-right-forces-spam
Codeberg, the open-source Git hosting platform, faced a hate campaign from far-right actors, causing spam emails and brief downtime. The issue has been resolved, no user data was leaked, and Codeberg remains committed to fighting hate in open source. The volunteer-led platform, with 150K+ users, is working on better protections and funding for moderation.

We stay strong against hate and hatred, and in response to the recent abuse campaign on our platform, we have renewed our commitment to fight for a better world. We apologize to everyone who was greeted with an abusive message this morning.
Read about the recent incident and our position on our blog: https://blog.codeberg.org/we-stay-strong-against-hate-and-hatred.html
Thanks to all your kind words of support, this is much appreciated. #StaySafe

If you are using Emacs with Eglot and a language server, you may be interested in eglot-cthier.el (formally eglot-hierarchy.el) which alles to show and navigate the call hierarchy of an item.
After feedback here, on the mailing list and on codeberg, an improved version is ready for testing.
I tested it with eclipse-jdtls and tsc.
Feedback welcome.

@madomado
agreed! I really am surprised more people don't use it, especially to host a Static website using Codeberg pages. -
🔔 #CodebergPages users with custom domains: Please check and update your DNS records.
You are not affected if you directly use username.codeberg.page, or if you configured CNAME or ALIAS records.
You are affected if you configured a custom domain with A and AAAA records before 19 April 2025.
Please double-check that you use these records:
A: 217.197.84.141
AAAA: 2a0a:4580:103f:c0de::2We'll share more background on this change on our blog soon.

I've lost so many hours of sleep trying to make #codebergpages work.
Just now I found out that while username.codeberg.page is served from the "pages" branch, custom domain pointing to username.codeberg.page is served from the "main" branch :nkoFacepalm:
Compare https://stepanzak.codeberg.page and https://stepanzak.cc

Oh, no! #Codeberg and #CodebergPages are down :(

@Codeberg first one is your service #CodebergPages and the other is #WoodpeckerCI
Also recently started using #ForgejoActions for deploying my website stuff.

Oh, nice, Codeberg Pages supports proper HTTP redirects these days!

Including catch-alls like /my-spa/* to /my-spa/index.html 👍
Thanks @Codeberg!

Nice Christmas gift: MathJax in Markdown on Codeberg.
https://codeberg.org/harald/Codeschnipselnotizen/src/branch/main/MathJaxTryout.md
**Except:** when I look at the page's HTML code, there is no MathJax. There is katex, which seems to do something similar. 🙂
Anyway, as long as a (La)TeX manual or the amsldoc https://texdoc.org/serve/amsldoc/0 suffices to get the math typed, all is fine :-)
(I am sure that not long ago I saw an open issue discussing MathJax in Markdown. Can't find it anymore.)
