  1. PULP
    Different Class
    2026 Worldwide reissue

A was delighted to see this excellent remaster in my local shop today.

Such a great album, and one I have a thousand memories attached to.

Saw them live the summer this came out, and it was one of the more fun shows I went to that year.

This is the only Pulp album I’ll ever need to own.
    Thems the facts.

Sending this out to Ivy Reynolds, wherever she is, and for reasons only she and I know.

    She knows what she did.

  5. MORT GARSON
    Didn’t You Hear?
    2020 U.S. reissue

I’ve been doing a DEEP dive of Mort Garson lately, & I knew I was gonna save this for last.

Touted as the first “completely electronic film score”, this was originally released in 1970, only available in the lobby of the Seattle movie theatre where it was first screened.
Sacred Bones did a great job of remastering this from the original tapes, & those who have been looking for it all these years will be very happy that it’s finally available & sounding great.

This is pre-Plantasia Mort, & it sounds like a mix of what he usually does, crossed with John Carpenter if he was drunk & at his synthesizer.
I could easily hear some of this shit being in Halloween, The Thing, or Escape From New York.

A quick note on the actual movie:

    It’s AWFUL.

And features a young Gary Busey.
    😂

  9. THE SMASHING PUMPKINS
    The Aeroplane Flies High
    1996 U.S. 5xCD Box Set

Oh man, what a find today!

A first issue of this killer CD box; complete with all five CDs, booklet, info card, in perfect shape.

This should not have been in a thrift store.

All 5 Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness singles with 5 bonus cover songs only available in this box.

Yeah, Billy Corgan is one of the biggest twats roaming the planet Earth, but the dude writes a killer song (at least… he DID), & you’d be hard pressed to find a bigger fan of Pumpkins 1.0 than me.

Some of my favorite tunes of theirs are found on Pisces Iscariot & are Mellon Collie b-sides.

I can think of about 4 songs you could have left off MC and replaced them with one of a handful of the b-sides found in this box.
It would have made it a less bloated, self indulgent album in my mind that played more complete.

  12. John & Yoko: Some Time in New York City (Apple PCS 7161, 1972)

I somehow ended up with a UK pressing of this. I like my solo Beatles unfussy and this one certainly is that. Lots of wailing sax and I must admit they have a rockin' band. There’s even some pretty stuff (“Luck of the Irish”) but overall its vibe is confrontational and aggressive. Which is cool. The lead single is hard to listen to these days.

  16. "I was 19 / I'd do anything"

Sometimes you need to go back to that space. Quintessential chill bro music from before those words had terrible multiple meanings.

Plus the Grassroots cover in particular looks nicer with the Pearlized reissue cover.

  23. DAVID BOWIE
    ChangesTwoBowie
    1981 Canada pressing

A collection of post-1976 singles, plus five songs from earlier that did NOT appear on the initial volume of CHANGESBOWIE.

Once Bowie left RCA, his relations with them deteriorated badly. RCA still owned distribution rights to his 1969–1980 catalog for a period, but Bowie reportedly disliked RCA’s budget reissues and marketing decisions. He felt they were exploiting the catalog without proper care or consultation.

RCA then deleted most of Bowie’s catalog from print in the U.S. and U.K. around 1981–1983. This was unusual given how important and commercially viable those albums were, & for several years, his work, including THIS, was hard to come by.

It was all due to catalog management & control during a major industry transition from vinyl to CD.

Thank god for Ryko, who saved his catalog for everybody, & reissued them with care.
