Learning about alt text for data visualizations this afternoon. Wonderful resource by Liz Hare @lizhare: https://lizharedogs.github.io/RLadiesNYAltText/#10
Ingredients (answer these questions):
1 What kind of visualization is it (line graph, scatter plot, bar chart...?)
2 What variables are on the axes?
3 What is the range of the data?
4 What relationship between variables does the data visualization show?Important: 1-3 alone are useless if you aren't going to include 4.

The Open Science Retreat 2026 in Wales is coming to an end and with that our beautiful little week of utopia-ing at the Center for Alternative Technology.
Jules is guiding us through the final presentations of the collaborative work that happened this week.
And a lot happened! The topics and activities were defined by everyone in a collaborative effort (#Unconference).
For the first time we did not only have an Unconference for the adult participants but also one for the kids 🤩
-
Today at the Open Science Retreat is all about adventure. Looking forward to how it will unfold. #OSR26UK
-
First impressions of Wales are fantastic. Had a great lunch and found our way to the Center of Alternative Technology (thanks to the kind and funny bus driver 😁).
Ready for the Open Science Retreat #OSR26UK
-
The Dutch Open Science Retreat is already in full swing. The morning started with a beautiful sunrise, and now the groups are in full work mode. Walks and shorter sessions to come in the afternoon and some fun evening activities (will there be singing again?)
-
I can't believe it's almost been a year since the Open Science Retreat in Switzerland #OSR25CH! Now I am already getting ready to go to the next two.
Two?! Yes.
I will head off to the Netherlands for a Dutch-centered retreat in the dunes and right after I'll continue on to Wales for the Open Science Retreat Global in the wonderful green nature of Wales #OSR26UK.
Looking forward to moving #OpenScience forward!
(and enjoying nature, of course) -
Munich Research Software Engineering Meetup today, 18:00 – 19:30, at Max Planck Information and Technology (MaxIT) in Laim

With #LoveReplicationsWeek just around the corner, let's talk about the new journal in the field: Replication Research (R2)
Repeating important research is an important building block of improving the reliability of research. R2 is turning this into a rewarding task by creating a venue to get these important studies published.
It's a journal aligned with the values of #OpenScience, it's multidisciplinary and it's ready for your submissions!

The Open Science Retreat is my favorite event of the year and next year I get to go to not only one but two?! 2026 will be the best year ever.
Want to join me? Here are your options:
#osr26uk: The much loved regular global retreat will take place in Wales
https://open.science-retreat.org/OSR26UK/#osr26nl: For the Dutch community there will be a local retreat in the Netherlands
https://openscienceretreat.eu/Applications are open now.

Where do people publish images such that they are citable, FAIR and browsable?
I‘d like to publish my drawings under a CC-BY license for reuse but I am struggling finding a good place for that.
-
Last day of the Open Science Retreat is starting with a special surprise: it's snowing! 🌨
Thanks Switzerland for showing us all the seasons in one week 💜
-
Recap of the day at #OSR25CH
Games are being created, educational resources are being built, zines are being put together, assessments were mapped out, change is being prepped,...
We hiked, laughed, discussed, ate,...
And the day is not even over!
Science karaoke, silent disco & more to come 🎶 -
What's better than a hike with #OpenScience friends?
-
First full day of the Open Science Retreat #OSR25CH is in full swing. Had some wonderful conversations about Open Science, science outreach and marketing, and unconventional careers all in a single day.
And enjoying walks and views of course.

All right friends, I've been feeling really inspired this week and wanted to do something creative. I like #sketchnoting to channel my creativity and mix it with something useful.
Since people often ask me how I create #sketchnotes, I thought I might create a free email course.
What do you think? -> Like + share, if you want me to do it 👍 😜
Any particular topics you'd like to see?

Summaries of some of the collaborative work during Open Science Retreat 2024, the Netherlands

So many things came out of the Open Science Retreat this year! 🤩
A bot that shares learning resources, a guidance document for staff assessment, and speculative fiction are just a few examples.
