Request for feedback from people on #fosstodon and beyond: me and my colleague Juan have been working hard to ensure that our upcoming workshop at Mobile Tartu 2026 is as reproducible as possible. Please can anyone interested in this #datascience and #reproducibleresearch space 'kick the tires' of our pre-requisites page, up to scratch? Any issues reported very welcome 🙏 https://github.com/tdscience/tartu26/issues/2

People: Why did you go into hardware troubleshooting/network/sysadmin as a career instead of programming?
Me: *points to this* I'd be forced to do things like THAT by now.

Firmly agree with the quote as is but I would add this is true in computing with 60s-80s.
Fundamental presuppositions can't be interrogated today. The original context and contents are just unknown to us generally. Few will have the timeenergy to explore and fewer in a position to use that knowledge.
Instead, were stuck "backroomsing" via narcissism of small differences the thing just before now. A stable state in deterritorialization where the change necessitates a difference in kind.

The CooSpo TR70 bike radar arrived today. First impressions: It tells you to install an app, but I then realized that it just connects to my Wahoo bike computer without any issue (ANT+/BT). Finding a good mounting position on my road bike was tricky. The seat post is taken up by a bag, chain stays are a bit thin. So I tried the top of the seat tube. I did a quick test on the city streets around my house -- which probably isn't the ideal environment for a radar. (cont)

Update: I had initially ordered the large size, based on their size table. They turned out to be too small (especially for layering with a liner glove). Today a pair in XL arrived and while it's roomy enough for a thin liner, the fingers are still on the short end. Not ideal, but I'll make do. If I need to replace them, I'd probably go for XXL, even though I really don't have terribly large hands. I can't even hold a basketball...

I wrote on Geomorphometry with Julia in the programming language section. Happy to finally see it published, even though it is the first non open access work I contributed to. Any code snippets will be open source.

Me too, the keyboard shortcut on Mac is hardwired into my brain now.
I quite enjoy still using em-dashes to make people think I'm using an LLM for my text.

... or if I wasn't working on runtimes or openstreetmap maybe some IoT stuff just to have an excuse to play with lots of cool hardware. Compared to some others #TheThingsConference in Amsterdam is sensibly priced at €100 for the Explorer ticket. Shame they're not on Mastodon though.

https://fosstodon.org/@AkaSci/110564868026765139The flybys, together with more than 15,000 hours-worth of solar electric propulsion, were needed to help the spacecraft overcome the Sun's massive gravitational forces and lose enough energy for capture into Mercury’s orbit.
