Check me on this: A #golang binary that uses the
x509roots/fallbackmodule will have to recompile, but otherwise binaries will use OS trust stores. Is that correct? -
Not every analyst can reverse-engineer a binary, and on a live investigation you rarely have the time anyway. That's not a reason to walk away from the sample.
Detonate it in a sandbox and its behavior gives you intelligence on its own. What it reaches out to. The infrastructure it phones home to. The tooling and campaign connections written all over its behavioral output. You can pull actor infrastructure and campaign links from how a sample acts, without ever opening a disassembler.
It's a fast, practical skill that most CTI training skips entirely — too technical for the beginner courses, assumed away by the advanced ones.
Dark Web Advanced CTI covers it directly: extracting infrastructure and attribution from behavioral output alone, then connecting it into the broader picture — C2 servers, phishing domains, bulletproof hosting, redirectors. 65+ C2 detection methods, taught hands-on. Real capability, no automation, nothing you're renting from a vendor. 120 days of access, exam and certificate.

Did you know that Claude Code ships a copy of ugrep built into the binary, and distinguishes based on argv[0]?
% bash -c 'exec -a ugrep claude --version'
ugrep 7.8.4 aarch64-apple-macosx +neon/AArch64; -P:pcre2jit; -z:zlib,bzip2,zstd,brotli,7z,tar/pax/cpio/zip

Speaking of mitigations, I suspect there's an easy binary patching one, locating the OOM handling function and (for x86) replacing the first 2 bytes with 0F 0B.

Every incident Aegis-v2 raises comes with receipts.
8 eBPF probes feed one daemon. It verifies the binary, scores the behaviour, and the score halves after 30 quiet seconds.

🤖✨ Behold, #LayerFS, the #filesystem for #AI agents that apparently need a "workspace" to perform their binary sorcery. With ephemeral workspaces and durable results, it's like a digital playpen where your AI can frolic, scribble some code, and vanish — because who doesn't love disappearing acts in computing? 🙃✨ "Ten ideas, one filesystem" sounds like a tech startup's desperate attempt at a slogan. 😂📂

Modern connected-device regulations like the EU CRA, FDA guidance, and IEC 62443 all rest on a single baseline: knowing exactly what is inside your product. When supplier manifests are incomplete, binary analysis fills the gap. 🧩

Sometimes I'll jokingly say (or write) something like, "It's a crime against humanity to release a binary executable without a man page." Then, there's this guy: https://github.com/skeeto/w64devkit/discussions/424 Writes the whole "man" infrastructure, including nroff, for windows and man pages for his w64devkit. Now that is above and beyond. "This guy" is Chris Wellons, https://nullprogram.com fairly well known in the C and C++ communities.

NVIDIA shipped a local MCP server with the toggle ON by default. 12 tools, 6 can change your machine. One binary toggle, no per-action authorization.
Anthropic confirmed the STDIO command injection flaw is "by design."

RE: https://infosec.exchange/@Spartan_1986/117480764972910966
So, that build date got me thinking. What if Canonical did implement the fix, but they are not reporting all the build digits? I know. That's stupid. But fortunately I can check on that. I've a Pro account and the server is, of course, registered with the Pro binary installed. You can force any CVE update with a the command "sudo pro fix CVE-YYYY-XXXX". So I ran the command for the two CVEs involved with this vuln. Here's what I got:
*******************************
$ sudo pro fix CVE-2026-109618
CVE-2026-109618: PHP vulnerabilities
- https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2026-1096181 affected source package is installed: php8.3
(1/1) php8.3:
A fix is available in Ubuntu standard updates.
The update is already installed.✔ CVE-2026-109618 is resolved.
$ sudo pro fix CVE-2026-109619
CVE-2026-109619: PHP vulnerabilities
- https://ubuntu.com/security/CVE-2026-1096191 affected source package is installed: php8.3
(1/1) php8.3:
A fix is available in Ubuntu standard updates.
The update is already installed.✔ CVE-2026-109619 is resolved.
*******************************Damn it Canonical! Digits f-ing matter!!! Why do you have to be so stupid. I frankly don't even know if I can trust this. It should report the correct version with 'php -v' you numbskulls. This is why I got out of system administration in the first place.
