At the risk of sounding like a #herzner shill, working with #ovhcloud really makes me appreciate hetzner. With OVH had to apply to get a server using my ID and wait for humans to approve it. (Annoying but ok). Then when I was approved it was for one month. I then had to apply for the ability to automatically pay each month automatically. Again waiting for a human. This was all for a few cheap instances for things like crash reporting. That and each page load taking 2 seconds. How is OVH alive?

Something I noticed about OVH's VPS with FreeBSD on ZFS.

ashift seems to be set to 0. I would've thought it would be set to 12?

Is ashift=0 normal on their VPSes?

This is mad. Had to configure #FreeBSD #ipv6 on #ovhcloud to use prefixlen 48 just so it can see the gateway.

Had anyone else come across this?

Second incident with my OVH VPS in the Zürich local zone today.

This time their super resilient storage failed.

The first image is from the KVM console. It shows many I/O errors on the disk device sda1.
The EXT4 file system aborted the journal and remounted as read only.

The second image is from the OVH panel.
It says Remote storage Resilient is included (haha).

The third image is my monitoring graph.
It shows 4 hours of downtime on June 19 (due to the network issues).

The fourth image shows another downtime today. It lasted 2 hours.

Super resilient storage does not look very reliable right now.

Has anyone else seen problems with OVH storage or local zones? That's insane. 7h downtime per week.

The domain transfer from Cloudflare to OVHcloud finally went through and I requested new certificates and everything went smooth. All services from my home server are available again.

I just initiated the domain transfer from Cloudflare to OVHcloud, let's see how this goes.

The order process from OVHcloud was really confusing: I created an account during ordering and it just dumped me into the dashboard afterwards without showing me my order again. Obviously I ordered again and then had two orders in my dashboard, one which was not paid yet because they created an order that I should somehow know about without telling me that is now expiring someday (which was probably created because I created an account during ordering) and my new order which I paid immediately.

I think I've never seen a more confusing order process in my life.

Not sure what is going on at OVH but they sent me four identical invoices for my Mastodon object storage priced at $4.22 except for the invoice reference, billed them all as $16.88, then refunded $4.22 three separate times.

So I looked for #VPS solutions that don't charge for bandwidth overage or have a large enough bandwidth cap.

Tried #Hetzner -- denied account :(
Considered #Linode -- feels a little expensive compared to others
Considered #OVHCloud -- wanted a lighter, less expensive VM than their starter

Was down to #Netcup (often mentioned in Reddit) VPS nano G11s and #BuyVM SLICE 1024.

Prioritized RAM (2x of BuyVM + 3x storage) so got Netcup despite 6mo lock-in.

Effektiv zahle ich nur noch per Karte, Überweisung, Lastschrift, Krypto, Bargeld oder Blut-, Tier- oder Menschenopfer.

Es gibt doch in #Europa so viele schöne Alternativen, die man nutzen könnte. In #Deutschland #ionos oder in #Frankreich #ovhcloud z.B.
