As much as I want to use Canadian servers from Canadian or Quebec based companies.

I haven't found good and affordable #vps yet.

Until I do, I'll keep using VPS from #ovhcloud

They have a datacenter in Beauharnois (#quebec) but it's a french company.

I trust France much more than the USA.

Plus, they don't have anything similar to the CLOUD act and they follow EU #privacy standards like #gdpr

I use object storage (#s3 compatible) and it costs me about 0.77$ CAD per month.

I can't believe how cheap this is.

There is just my emails that I'm using #typewire

While there is nothing wrong with ovhcloud, it is ultimately a french company.

Now, as a french Canadian, I don't feel so bad about using a french company. They have a few datacenters in Canada, including one in Beauharnois, Quebec.

But I wish I could find a similar company, but that is Quebec-owned, or even Canadian. #quebec #canada

Sure, they are many quebec/canadian web hosting companies, but I have yet to find one that is at the level I would need it to be.
- VPS are too expensive for too few ressources.
- No object storage
- Missing many domain extensions

Since we've been so reliant on the US, I think it shows how behind Canada really is for its #tech .

When I finally decided to go with a #VPS array on #OVHcloud, they do not have any available…

I think I just managed to make my Object Storage (#s3 compatible) work on my #peertube

First, it took 2 weeks because I got a bug with #ovhcloud where they wouldn't deliver the product.

When I got it set up, it was quite straight forward. Just copy/paste all the infos and keys into the peertube config file.

My only struggle was realizing that I had to apply some #cors settings to my bucket.

Other than that, #yunohost makes selfhosting quite easy.

The next step will be to migrate my videos to the instance.

I was trying to report spam email from #OVHcloud hosted system to OVH by using their abuse form. The form requires you to "Enter the Uuid received by email for the alert you have sent."

Too bad OVH's own email server is listed in spamsources https://www.spamsources.fabel.dk/ip/137.74.246.130 so I can't complete the abuse report.

Oh well, I guess I'll just blanket ban whole OVHcloud for SMTP traffic then.

@macbraughton @metin For now, I have my old laptop hosting my Gitea, which is connected to the VPS through a WireGuard VPN tunnel, because I can't expose services over the Internet from home since I'm behind a CG-NAT.

I used to use cloudflared, which was a Cloudflare tunnel to expose private resources. The problem is that I find it very invasive to use cloudflared as a reverse proxy and pass everything through the Cloudflare network.

I also moved my .dev top-level domain from Google to EURid's .eu.

I'm very happy with these changes. I no longer have to put up with AI's obsession every time I did something on GitHub.

On top of that, I no longer use Cloudflare, and recently had to install Anubis (Web AI Firewall) to stop being attacked by AI Crawlers from openai and other Big Tech companies that were scanning all the commits on my Gitea (public repositories ofc).

Ich benötige ca. alle zwei Wochen etwas mehr Rechenleistung als ich lokal zur Verfügung habe, um KI-Modelle u.A. zur Vorhersage des Wärmebedarfs verschiedener Gebäude und dem gezielten Einsatz erneuerbarer Energien zu trainieren. Habe den heutigen #DIDay zum Anlass genommen meine #Terraform Configs dafür von Azure auf #OVHCloud zu portieren. Noch ist die Umstellung nicht produktiv und ich möchte vorher noch alles ausführlich testen, aber der erste Schritt ist geschafft. 😅

Trialled a domain transfer from name cheap to #ovhcloud, and I cannot believe how fast it was - took me about an hour from initiation to completion. Kudos to #namecheap for making it fast.

And while #ovhcloud seem very efficient, its domain management interface is really odd and clearly not their priority. How do I edit custom nameservers? Will need to dig up some docs.

New #VPS pricing from #ovhcloud seems really good. Never used them, as currently using #hetzner . Any reason not to give them a try? what has your experience with them been like all?
