Tonight’s beer was Yuengling’s Black & Tan. I’m a fan of these types of beers and I was curious how they’d bottle it. Black & Tan is usually two beers in one glass: a dark beer on the bottom and light beer floating on top. Some places refer to this as a half and half as well.
I’m not usually a fan of mass-produced beer, but I find that Yuengling makes some pretty nice stuff; I’m a huge fan of their lager and their Hershey’s Porter. It’s clear they’ve been able to stick to their roots even after being consumed by the big conglomerate.
At 4.6% ABV and 17 IBU, it’s a refreshing beer. It is, indeed, a blend of their porter and their premium lager. It’s not quite half and half, more like 60/40. I’d buy this one to enjoy again.

Yuengling Black & Tan models a traditional English Half & Half. Introduced in 1986, Yuengling produced one of the first hand-crafted draft blends to lead this style of American brewing. Black & Tan combines 60% of our popular Dark Brewed Porter and 40% of our Premium Beer to create a brew that is rich and dark in color with hints of caramel and coffee from the dark roasted malts.
