FID (First Input Delay) is being replaced by INP (Interaction to Next Paint) in Google's metrics.
FID measures the delay on the FIRST click. INP measures the worst interaction delay across the entire session.
If your product has complex interactions (modals, dropdowns, dynamic content) -- INP will reveal lag that FID misses.

Now, this is just the home page, I still have some work left on other parts of the site. And the performance overall has already been pretty decent.
The two things I mainly focused on were:
1. Color contrast. I've been a bit lazy about this, I will admit, relying on Bootstrap's own color theme. Finally cleaned this up.
2. Custom web fonts. And I think this is a big one. The only font I really wanted to keep is the Atkinson Hyperlegible Font from Braille Institute as the main font. Huge fan of this font.

For comparison, the mean values around Europe are in the order of 25-30ms.

This document defines an API that web page authors can use to detect presence of "long animation frames" that monopolize the UI thread for extended periods of time and block other critical tasks from being executed - e.g. reacting to user input.

Bet you did not know this: scroll is not an excluding input for CLS. There is no 500ms grace period. Every layout shift during a scroll counts.
That hide-on-scroll header animating top? New layout shift on every frame. Every scroll direction change.
Fix: replace top with transform: translateY(). Compositor only. Zero shifts.
Lighthouse will never catch this. It does not scroll.
