From granitic soil at 250 meters, this was a good pairing for 100F heat. This is usually a steelier wine than their Classic brand, but in vintage 2017, maybe it too is a bit riper. A little! It's still focused, dry and crisp.
The winery's products always age, so no surprise there (but "Granit" is not as old as a brand). Still in perfect shape, it adds tasty fruit. Hard to go wrong here.
13% alc. Mid-$20s these days.

How do you pair this? With 100F heat, obviously. 🙄

2/3 Ripe and round, but with integrated acidity to enliven it. From old vines to the price (upper $30s) to fine depth to alcohol at 13.5%, it's not exactly a stereotypical Vinho Verde. Call it just a fine white! Holding perfectly, quite youthful. #vinhoverde #portugal

Holding perfectly, quite youthful.P.s. Ramadas is a pergola training system for vines, FYI; metal, means unoaked. Sem Igual is the brand/name.

Summer is waning, but I still have some time for Vinho Verde! I'm burning through a stash of these 2015s, an iconic brand in Vinho Verde. Let's have another!
Holding beautifully, it's barely middle-aged, even at age 10. The vibrant acidity supports maturing but still prime-time fruit. It's quite tasty, on track to hold well until I have none left. It's a bright, nicely constructed Alvarinho from a vintage I loved. Around $20 these days, 12.5% alcohol.
-
The 2016 MQ Vinhos Vale dos Ares Limited Edition (meaning 6 mos. in used wood, small production) is Alvarinho, still fresh and lively, with focus and flavor. Wood, of course, changes the equation, but acidity has a say here and there is tension on the finish. This is a sturdy style of Vinho Verde, not a simple sipper, able to hold up to courses where you might've picked a Chard. Better the next day. Near peak, it can still hold a bit. 13.5%. Newer years, $30s.
-
The wood makes it seem fuller, but that's well integrated now. As well as it shows initially, there are tired aspects as it evolves. It cracks eventually. Time to drink up. Around 12%, $30s, these days

This '03 Escolha is a Loureiro aged in used wood for six months. Alvarinho is more famous, but it's not the only great grape in Vinho Verde. (Vinhão lovers, you know who you are, step back. 🤫 )This acquitted itself well for a Vinho Verde aging curve over the years, but the last few have brought it to the end of the road. An enticing balance of big fruit (for the region) and a tart edge, this is still juicy and tasty.

🎺🎺 2015 is my winner today, but that has always been one of my very favorite vintages for this. The 2017 and 2024 are very fine. All will age. Today, '17 over '24 but that answer could change. You can certainly drink the '24 today! It's not a tannic Barolo. 😜 But you'll likely be happier in a 3 years or more.
$20, dry, both around 12.5%. NO FIZZ
-
I've a few left, but happy to say, no rush! Under $20 then, a bit more now.
My sequel post with the '17, '24 soon.
BTW, the "Classico," as it is called, is unoaked, fruitier than others, plenty of quantity. It maintains crispness and quality. That name is not on the label, it's just the casual reference for the traditional flagship.

And as summer winds down--but rears its head today with a vengeance--the "heat and..." series comes to Loureiro and Vinho Verde. From a producer that makes 'em to age, this regular 2015 is gorgeous--fresh, with a juicy, succulent finish and good depth for the style. Always liked this year! 11.5%, $17. #wine #portugal #vinhoverde @quintadoameal

@tofu SOoooo perfect for a hot day, so refreshing....Open this one on the docks and sip the day away! #wine #alvarinho #portugal #vinhoverde
-
The "heat and..." series comes to Allo, Allo! Not the old British comedy, but an ALvarinho-LOureiro blend from this Alvarinho specialist. This is a simpler wine in the lineup, more energy than depth, but it's capable of aging--still young!--and perfect for the summer. Bright, crisp and light, it adds appealing aromatics and some tension. 11%, around $17 #wine #vinhoverde #portugal

Summer heat and 2015 Alvarinho! It's bright and tight with a nuanced finish. It's developed with a stonewashed demeanor, and a hint of lemon and flint. This is more structure than fruit-oriented. It's a summer refresher with time left. $20, 12.5% #wine #portugal #vinhoverde #alvarinho
-
Let's get the Vinho Verde season started. Summer is coming, right? What do you want from a perky, dry blend? Fresh and lively, this 2021 has low alcohol (11.9%) and a crisp finish. It's aromatic up front and all of $11. From producer Lua Cheia, this friendly blend is a nice deal in a dry, light, zesty, but not too-tart style. Nice to drink by itself! You don't need to obsess over it. #wine #vinhoverde #wine

My building switched to heat. Time for Port? Well...One more summer wine. This 2016 is gloriously fresh, so crisp and precise that it becomes irresistible just for that. Plus the fruit is subtly concentrated, even a little rich. It is very dry, yet fruity and rather tasty too. I wish I could tell you how much longer this is going to last, but I wouldn't hold your breath waiting. It seems to be in the middle of its aging curve, not near the end. $18 on release. #vinhoverde #winesofportugal
-
The new wave of Vinho Verde is not so new any more--real table wines, no fizz, dry, structure. Ameal has been one of the icons in the region. Acquired by Esporão recently, it has to prove it can still be great, but this is certainly true to the basic style. I think it's not the greatest regular version ever, but still very good and able to age. $18.
-
Holding beautifully, deep, tense and long on the finish. When I talk about how this region destroys old stereotypes these days, this is another good example. No fizz, good concentration, beautiful structure. Serious table wine.
