  1. Had some troubleshooting with the #raspberrypi running #VenusOS. Turns out a flash symbol on the screen indicates inadequate power. The 12 V dc-dc stepdown is rated at 3000 mA and it looks like we're under 1 A. Changed the USB-A to micro-USB lead after a long session of elimination. That seems to have fixed it and it now boots reliably without bootlooping. Since the raspberry pi is built into the #LiFePO4 battery it was a pig to debug. Have to rebuild it to have the raspberry external.

    Ikea's cutlery box fits, if you sand off the edge.

    Light installed in the pilot berth. Have been planning this for literal decades.

  9. Finally got around to replacing my small but expensive APC lead-acid based UPSs with one larger LiFePO4 self-built system. Has about 10 hours of capacity and the advantage of being able to take advantage of cheap electricity.
    Cells and case from #fogstar, BMS from #JBD, Inverter/charger and battery monitor from #Victron and powered by a #raspberrypi running #venusOS.

    IMHO der einzige kommerzielle Anbieter der seine Sofware offen anbietet und auch noch ein Forum für Erweiterungen anbietet.

    Mit #NodeRED, MQTT und #modbustcp braucht man nicht viel mehr um glücklich zu sein.
    Selbst wenn man keine Solaranlage betreibt ist #VenusOS ein super Gateway.

  18. @pocketvj It is possible to #SSH into the #VenusOS. Did you get this to work? There is a option in the GUI for enabling SSH.

    Then there is a software to get all values from the inverter. And I would assume, also the error codes!?

  24. Three days of #BoatYoga makes me sore. It was easier before. Well, at least I finally have a #LiFePO4 battery! And since I built the battery myself it has built-in a BMS with CAN-bus and a #raspberrypi running #VenusOS.

    On one side, I am so deep in this rabbit hole that its not much more effort to implement the canbus communication and control algorithms in node-red or call call the C program beyondlogic.org/review-huawei- ; On the other side I want to avoid to reinvent the wheel and focus on interesting stuff and not debugging can communication.

    I read a forum discussion about people integrating the charger in their #victronenergy system, but they never wrote how they did it - apparently some kind of #mqtt #dbus bridge emulating a Victron charger with the actual communication done by some ESP8266/33; other people just set a default voltage/current and use it to top up their offgrid system with a small generator.

  38. The house UPS is beeping menacingly. 2nd-hand UPSs only seem to last only three years or so, so, time for a new approach. I've some LiFePO4 cells, a BMS and a Victron shunt lying around for a power-pack project I never got started. One Victron inverter, a few bits and pieces and a #RaspberryPi running #VenusOS later and I have a new UPS with four times the run-time of the old one and with a whole shed-load of monitoring/control available to play with.

    - #kalilinux (hacking, if needed)
    - #knoppix data rescue from #windows machines
    - #raspbian #RaspberryPiOS for my #raspi s
    - #venusOS on a raspberry for my #victron #solar system
    - #pihole as my #DNS server

  46. #victronenergy Die Fimware 3.11 ist für verschiedene GX Geräte seit dem 09.10.2023 zu installieren. Ich nutze die Version auf einem #raspberrypi 4. #VenusOS - large (mit Node-RED und signal-k).
