  1. Teach the kids how to network with agritech meshworks while they practice building and growing food on community lots to activate vacant spaces

it can act as a model for transparency that incentivizes friendly-relations with the land that can be scaled as a governance model of accountability

    2/2

it is roundabout but the behemoth is so big it's forgotten about it's own body parts and left them open

  7. Coffee shops and bars aren’t social hangouts for me. They’re places I go to be around people but where I can be alone with my thoughts to ease into my day or decompress from it. I also consider them as #thirdspaces where I engage in intimate discussions but they need to be organic evolutions.

  10. And because this is the STUPIDEST TIMELINE EVER I am FORCED to spend money on gas and food (or something, because there are no third spaces anymore) just to be ALLOWED to BE SOMEWHERE where I can breathe.

I am allergic to whatever fungi or molds are growing under this house since the flood in Apirl and KEEPS GROWING since it KEEPS RAINING and HASN'T FULLY DRIED OUT SINCE and if I spend more than 12 hours here I'm sicker than a dog.

Spending money to leave my own fucking house just so I can fucking BREATHE. Yea, my family really "loves" me and would be "so sad" if I DIED.

  17. Lack of #ThirdSpaces? #Smartphones taking away #HumanConnection? Seeing through the bullshit and believing they have no future? There's a lot of factors that could be at play here.

#TeenTakeovers push cities to take action as experts see echoes of the Covid pandemic

Teens who have been clashing with cops went into lockdown during their middle school years, when they were learning how to interact with the world around them.

By Doha Madani and Corky Siemaszko

Excerpt: " 'More often than not, it is a desperate need for connection,' he said.

"In addition, Abrams said, teen takeovers swell up fast because many teenagers just have no place else to go. There used to be more of what experts call '#ThirdSpaces' — not home or school — where kids could socialize freely. But spaces that are affordable and welcoming to teenagers are increasingly harder to find, Abrams said.

    "Take the library, he said.

" 'We always see plenty of room for senior citizens, plenty of room for adults and programming for adults,' Abrams said. 'We see lots of space for little kids. ... We don’t see as much room for 11-, 12-, 13-year-olds or 16-year-olds.'

"Jasmin Ford, a psychiatric nurse practitioner and clinical instructor at the University of Illinois at Chicago, said teenagers today face a mental health crisis that accelerated during the pandemic and has not returned to pre-Covid levels."

  22. Compare and contrast

    youtube.com/shorts/xMDxRzqpbF0

    with

    lawyersgunsmoneyblog.com/2026/

Strictly speaking, the one does not contradict the other, as each chiefly addresses different topics: the unhoused in public spaces on the one hand, public drug use on the other.

Yet a difference in attitude is certainly present here, as well as a difference in the understanding of freedom as a value.

I don't have a pat answer about the "correctness" of either approach. I do know that progressives should be thinking hard about these matters
and be ready for challenging discussion about public space, inclusion, and the justifiability or otherwise of paternalism with regard to housing, drug use, and mental illness.

  27. Alas, the reality in Britain is so-called " #pub community " revolves around heavy #alcohol use (and is dominated by white males with centrist or right-wing political views), outside of towns Britain is heavily car dependent and society rightly no longer tolerates DUI - and in town if you aren't driving you have to get back home somehow - streets at night aren't always pleasant in town even for men (especially if you are also from any ethnic minority, marginalised group or neurodiverse) and are even worse for women / openly LGBT+

On top of cost of living, this adds to reasons why pub culture is dying ( and I say this as a member of #CAMRA )

We do need more #ThirdSpaces which open in the evening, but aren't dependent on alcohol dealing!

  42. Ten years ago a group of us met in an Arcadia coffee shop to talk about literature and theology, perhaps after the manner of the Oxford Inklings. We decided to meet once a month, and did so until Covid put an end to such gatherings, and here is a record of our first meeting.

Two of the founding members, David Levey, of the English Department at Unisa, and Tony MacGregor, have since died (though not of Covid), so we haven't been able to revive it. It was an example of a "third space" gathering (the first two "spaces" being home and work).

  47. This last six months I have so, so enjoyed being able to take the train to a movie theater in downtown KC. The theater is right at the train stop, so it's like getting to be chauffered.

I got an email that it was being closed this weekend literally as I was listening to a video about the disappearance of third spaces yesterday.

I hate the billionaires and how they've fucking killed everything good in this country.
