Ursula Le Guin w opowiadaniu "Ci, którzy odchodzą z Omelas" pisze, że szczęście wymaga umiejętności rozróżnienia między tym, co konieczne, tym, co jedynie przydatne i wygodne, oraz tym, co szkodliwe.

Warto zadać sobie pytanie, ile z tego, co robimy zwierzętom, jest rzeczywiście konieczne? A ile robimy dlatego, że tak zostaliśmy wychowani, bo tak jest łatwiej, taniej, smaczniej, wygodniej albo bardziej komfortowo w relacjach z innymi ludźmi?

Możemy doskonale rozpoznawać przemoc wtedy, kiedy dotyka nas albo grupy, z którą się utożsamiamy, i pozostawać ślepi wtedy, kiedy sami czerpiemy korzyści z określonego porządku.

PHOENIX – "For Indigenous small business owner Natasha John, the road to owning a coffee shop has been long. About 300 miles, in fact.

"John first opened Skoden Coffee & Tea as a pop-up in Window Rock, the capital of the Navajo Nation, traveling to areas throughout the vast community in northeast Arizona.

"When people suggested she should move the business 300 miles south to Phoenix, John recalled she doubted the idea.

" 'I was really against it because I thought I wanted to be like a food hub on the reservation because it’s such a food desert,' John said. 'But I had the reassurance from my partner and colleagues that were helping me with pop-ups.'

"When an opportunity came in December 2023 to move the enterprise to a vacant spot inside For The People, an uptown #PhoenixAZ furniture store on Central Avenue, she jumped at the chance.

" 'Fortunately, we had a lot of success with that first location,' she said. 'When business owners say location means everything, it really does.'

"Skoden Coffee & Tea has now settled in its most recent home inside #CentralRecords, a record store on Central Avenue south of Roosevelt Street. It’s inspired by Japanese-style coffee shops referred to as 'kissa.'

"That’s a shortened version of 'kissaten,' roughly translated to 'tea drinking shop.' In Japan, a kissa is a spot where people can listen to music, usually jazz, while enjoying their tea.

"At Skoden, a variety of beverages and pastries are inspired by Indigenous cuisine, with ingredients like blue corn and oat milk alongside coffees and espressos. Among the most popular offerings are the Diné Matcha Latte, Honey Lavender Lez Love, Peach and Pecan Latte as well as blue corn donuts and croissants.

"For John and co-owner Jo Manuelito, it’s important to include elements of nostalgia from growing up on the reservation.

"This includes beverages that use Navajo tea, an ancient herbal tea using the dried leaves of Greenthread, also known as Thelesperma. The herb, with its thread-like leaves, contains anti-inflammatory elements, which is why the tea has been used for hundreds of years as tribal medicine.

" 'We do research into trying to restore a lot of things that were lost during #colonization in our diets,' John said.
'One thing that a lot of Navajo people are trying to revive is the use of #sumac. It’s used in a lot of #MiddleEastern communities, but our ancestors used to harvest it as well.'

"The use of ancestral ingredients is what John believes will help the #Navajo community not only nourish themselves but stay connected to their culture.

"Being #Indigenous and #LGBTQ+, John said she recognizes some of the difficulties she has faced as a business owner.

" 'I feel like there’s a lot of judgment and high expectations,' she said. 'People are constantly projecting onto us, always watching us and judging. This whole experience has taught me that we really need to grow thicker skin.'

"John said they want all customers to feel safe and welcomed, and said it helps that the shop is surrounded by other supportive small businesses like Greater Good and Last Laugh Tattoo.

"Skoden has a growing Instagram presence, with more than 15,000 followers. It hosts fundraising events for diverse communities and music festivals featuring small bands.

" 'Everybody does a good job of uplifting each other, and we get a lot of people in the area that come in and support local business owners,' John said. 'The shop can take credit for being a #SafeSpace where people can share the same values and ideas on social issues.'

"Charlie Amáyá Scott, a Native American scholar and transgender advocate, has visited Skoden and said her favorite drink is the Navajo lavender-infused honey tea.

" 'I adore Skoden Coffee,' said Scott, who also works as a social media influencer.

"She has taken to Instagram to support the shop, encouraging others who live near the area to check it out. She also has spoken out about the shop’s role in #activism and support of certain movements like #BearsEars, which involves a coalition of five Indigenous communities who want to protect the #BearsEarsNationalMonument.

"John said she wants customers to leave Skoden feeling supported and renewed.

" 'We have to remind each other what we’re doing this for and go back to those values of why we started this business,' she said. 'For us, it’s not about making money but trying to create change through serving coffee and providing a space where people can just heal.' "

You will have the unique opportunity to view these beautiful skirts made by BC Indigenous/Indigenous BIPOC individuals, and learn about the importance of continuing these traditions.

You will also have the privilege to #WitnessTestimony from #ResidentialSchoolSurvivors, the ones who did not make it as well as for honoring all #IndigenousCommunities.

Truth and Reconciliation, also known as #OrangeShirtDay, is a reminder of what was done in #Canadian history that impacted the #IndigenousPeople, and continues to impact generations of Indigenous communities. On this day we highlight how the conversation needs to be continued as a step for #healing and #reconciliation.

Heute möchte ich Euch einmal zeigen, wie stolz ich auf mich bin. Ich mache seit meinem #ComingOut jeden Tag #Selfies, einfach um selbst meinen #Fortschritt sehen zu können, aber auch weil ich einfach unglaublich #stolz bin auf die #Frau, die aus mir geworden ist.

Bisher habe ich hier im #Fediverse tatsächlich noch keine #Collage gepostet. Das habe ich bisher tatsächlich nur auf Facebook getan. Aber ich habe hier so viele liebe Menschies* um mich herum. Und Euch möchte ich das nun auch endlich einmal zeigen.

Das erste Bild oben links war Alex. Alex war damals 43 Jahre alt. Das Bild entstand damals als Bewerbungsfoto, weil ich damals arbeitslos war.

Zwei Monate nach diesem Bewerbungsfoto hatte ich mein ComingOut und von dem Tag an, war ich 100% die Frau, die ich schon immer war. Es gab niemals ein Zurück, ein Zögern oder ein Zweifeln.

Seit April 2016 war ich dann in der Begleittherapie, seit Juni 2016 hatte ich meine Hormone und im Januar 2018 hatte ich meine erste Geschlechtsangleichende Operation.

Heute bin ich unglaublich stolz. Stolz darauf, es geschafft zu haben.

In diesem Jahr werde ich 52 Jahre jung. Man kann es kaum glauben.

J’ai rencontré Hanneli Victoire presque par hasard, autour d’un projet que je trouvais formidable et qui me tenait à cœur, un tiers-lieu qui serait à la fois queer, calme et sans alcool, une sorte de sainte trinité qui semble aller de soi pour nombre des nos adelphes qui sont à la fois trans et neuroatypiques, mais qui continue d’échapper aux personnes qui ont à la fois l’énergie et les moyens de mettre ce genre d’espace à disposition. Je cherchais en 2021 à aider à la promotion de la Constellation par tous les moyens, et il se trouvait une personne trans dans l’équipe. C’est dans ce joli café aujourd’hui défunt, que nous avons enregistré cet échange, le premier en face à face.

Quand un podcast publié cette semaine commence par « Nous sommes le premier avril 2021 », c’est pas forcément une bonne nouvelle. Mais cet épisode a super bien vieilli dans l’ensemble ! Jena a très bien fait de partager son excellente interview avec Hanneli Victoire.

J’en retiens ces quelques sujets, pêle-mêle :

• Transitionner en passant par le milieu pd, rester loin du milieu lesbien avant la transition
• La représentation des personnes queer dans la culture mainstream
  • [Boys don’t cry], c’est vraiment du malheur pour du malheur.
  • Se contenter du strict minimum en termes de représentation trans.
  • Le manque de représentation des couples butch-butch
• Le t4t, fétichisme ou safe space ?
• Le choix de ne pas faire de transition médicale pour performer un genre quand le contexte l’exige.
• Avoir des lieux et des groupes d’ami·es oour passer un bon moment sans toujours se battre
  • Pourquoi la non-mixité est un super outil pour y arriver
  • Ne pas négliger le rôle des allié·es et partager les ressources entre les groupes marginalisés
• L’importance de la visibilité des personnes queer plus âgées et de partager nos archives
• Surmonter la peur de vieillir et l’injonction à réussir, et surtout à réussir jeune
• Plein de projets cool, dont certains malheureusement disparus : la Constellation, QueerCook, Eaux z’ons le genre, les Dégommeuses, Oenologouine, Pia Pia Média, les Archives LGBTQI+…
• Le premier roman de Hanneli Victoire, Rien à perdre (éd. Stock, 2023)

Attention, gros TW transphobie et viol sur toutes les dix premières minutes dédiées à la représentation des personnes trans dans le cinéma mainstream (notamment Boys don’t cry). Le sujet revient de temps en temps dans la suite.
