With #CDC still director-less, Sec. Kennedy has signed off on #ACIP recommendations to require all #flu vaccine for the US market to be #thimerosal free.
He did not, however, sign off on the ACIP recommendation that everyone get a flu shot. That recommendation is "under review." Ditto a recommendation for use of Merck's new monoclonal to protect babies from #RSV.

An anti-vaccine activist gave a presentation at the CDC's vaccine advisory committee today about the supposed risks of thimerosal. Lynn Redwood, a nurse practitioner who is president emerita of Children's Health Defense, claimed that the preservative is linked to brain inflammation, which she said was "one of the hallmarks we see in autism." Any association between thimerosal and autism has been widely debunked. Nevertheless, after her presentation, the committee voted 5-1 to recommend that children, adults and pregnant people get thimerosal-free flu vaccines. Here's NBC News's story about it. The Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (#ACIP), made up of members recently hand-selected by #HHS Secy Robert F. Kennedy Jr., voted 5-1 on Thurs to recommend against #FluBaccines containing the preservative #thimerosal.
One committee member, Vicky Pebsworth, abstained on each vote.

@ben_crowell_fullerton it’s shameful how the bad science around #Thimerosal was politicized. It’s still a factor 25 years later. I personally argued with #AndrewWakefield once. I had California data he was misconstruing and he threatened to sue me over releasing it. Horrible human being.
It was also an eye opener that the Hasidic community in New York were a hotbed of vaccine denial.
