  6. @zzclaybourne The style reminds me of stuff I used to see as a kid in the 70s. (That's an amen.)

Especially the character in the peacock chair. This may be the first peacock chair I've seen in any pop culture in forty years.

Seriously, who went around rounding up all the peacock chairs?

  11. Soft roads to #KrisKristofferson.

Been a huge fan since my uncle turned me on to him in the early 70s. Long trek from a right-wing youth through pioneering counter-culture country artist to senior statesman of country music. I went to his shows, and the whole 8.23 metres.

You had a central role in the development of my empathy and intellect, and an indelible influence on my musical and songwriting styles.

    Thanks, man.

  15. My brother and I had bad gringo tacos for supper, as part of our ongoing series of meals honouring our mother. They were disappointingly good.

This is partly because, since moving out and not being white in the 70s anymore, I insist on using good ingredients and preparing them properly. But mostly, they just always were that good.

    Who knew?

  19. Every so often I hear old people sneer about young people's fashion choices these days, and I remember that we had fashions in the 70s where if you were wearing them you had to stay out of the henhouse or the chickens would stop laying.

NYT film critic Vincent Canby, on a B-movie from the 70s that has no picnic in it.

  35. "Mike, I gotta ask you. Is this stuff benign?"
"Does it have a name, Mike?"
"This really is the strangest-tasting dish, Michael."
"Mike, did it come in a can, or did it just follow you home?"
"Now, Joanie, this is really your fault. You know Mike needs supervision when..."
"I know and I'm sorry. I only left the room for a second and..."
"It moved, I think. It did! It's eating my peas!"
"Where'd you get the recipe, Mike? Sports Illustrated?"

Dinner table conversation, A Doonesbury Special, Thanksgiving 1977.
