  1. Late Afternoon #Cinema: 1957’s Curse of #Frankenstein. The creature, played by #ChristopherLee, closes in on “Grandpa,” acted by Fred Johnson. The first of #HammerFilms’ highly successful #horror #productions, directed by #TerenceFisher. #movies #MovieSky #HorrorSky

  2. Watched a fairly stupid cartoon about a yeti with my daughter. Full of farting humor and such. But it made me want to see #Hammer's #AbominableSnowman again. Maybe I'll do that when she is asleep. #ClassicMovies #PeterCushing #NigelKneale #TerenceFisher

  3. Terence Fisher's Kill Me Tomorrow (1957), an OK cheap crime B-movie about a hardbitten reporter who's wrecked his career with booze and self-pity. Now he has to convince the cops that he's a murderer. Lois Maxwell plays a feisty girl reporter.

  4. Dracula Prince of Darkness (1966), first Hammer horror film to suggest that vampirism is all about awakening female sexuality.

That's not to say the movie is in favour of female sexuality. The fact that it clearly made the director uncomfortable is what makes it such an interesting movie.

    Includes a horrifying staking scene.

  5. Terence Fisher's Dracula: Prince of Darkness was the first Hammer film I ever saw so obviously I have a definite soft spot for it.

For a 1966 Hammer film it's surprisingly disturbing. In this movie vampirism is all about female sexuality.

And of course, Christopher Lee as Dracula.

  6. Terence Fisher's Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed (1969) starring Peter Cushing, features a monster who isn’t very monstrous and is very sympathetic.

Overall the most satisfying of all Hammer's Frankenstein movies with a real edge to it. There’s no high camp here. The mood is relentlessly grim and the shocks really do shock.
