Hammer's The Evil of Frankenstein is the only film financed by Universal Pictures. This gave Hammer the chance to beef up Peter Cushing's lab sets as well as feature a creature that is slightly more reminiscent in shape and size to the Boris Karloff template. Peter Cushing's digital replica rights as Star Wars Moff Tarkin Lawsuit thrown out of UK court today.
Legendary actor Peter Cushing played Grand Moff Tarkin in Star Wars (1977).
The actor passed away in 1994.
LucasFilm resurrected Cushing to play Tarkin for Rogue One (2016) with a digital creation from Visual effects company Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) after Cushing's family agreed to the project.
Tyburn Film Productions took LucasFilm/Disney to the UK courts in 2021 arguing they held rights over the star being bought back to life by technology and the digital replica used in Rogue One was done without permission.
Today (18th Dec 2025) after four years, appeal judges tossed the case out of court based on the fact that Tyburn's contract did not apply in this case.

I love everything about this post. A friend of mine sent it to me and it had me laughing. In a good way, of course.
I've always either imagined Peter Cushing or Christopher Plummer as our dear Regis. It's a toss-up between the two of them, I swear.
What's even wilder is that said friend sent me another post where one of the game developers commented and basically confirmed that they had Peter Cushing in mind for Regis. That blew my mind. And it's funny because now that's two characters I adore... Emmrich was created with him in mind as well. 🔥
