  1. In the early 70s Hammer tried to breathe new life into their gothic horror cycle with some fascinating films that broke free of the rigid Hammer formula. Countess Dracula (1971) is one of their most successful efforts. Ingrid Pitt is terrific.

  2. Peter Sasdy’s Countess Dracula (1971), based on the infamous real-life Hungarian Countess Erzsébet Báthory, believed to be the most horrific female serial killer in history.

One of Hammer's most successful attempts to breathe new life into their gothic horror output.

Ingrid Pitt is suitably gorgeous and evil.

  3. This evening's viewing: 1971 offering, one of the "portmanteau" anthology films from Hammer rival, Amicus, The House That Dripped Blood.

Christopher Lee, Peter Cushing, Denholm Elliot and a fabulous pairing of Jon Pertwee & Ingrid Pitt as a pair of bickering actors involved with a cloak from a real vampire. Cheesy, yes, but good fun.

  4. she gently spoofed the seductive, predatory image created in Hammer's #TheVampireLovers (1970) and #Countess Dracula (1971). She was subtly menacing as the registrar in Robin Hardy's #TheWickerMan (1973), joining the May Day sacrifice of Sgt. Howie. You will know her as #IngridPitt.
