  1. Happy International Day for Biological Diversity! 🌱

A diverse ecosystem is a strong ecosystem. In the tech world, NetBSD brings vital diversity by proving that clean, portable, and secure code can run on virtually any architecture. This adaptability keeps computing open and accessible to everyone.

Let's keep the digital ecosystem diverse. Consider supporting the NetBSD Foundation today by contributing code, writing documentation, or making a donation! 💻🚩

  6. Women represent just over a quarter of tech roles. In 2026, companies that invest in skills based growth pathways will build stronger and more resilient teams.

  7. Ever walked into a tech event and thought, "Where are the women?" You're not alone! [2 of 2]

Why the Big Difference? Think of it like this:

    a. Old Habits: Many years ago, fewer girls were encouraged to learn about computers and coding. This started a trend that made it seem like a "boy's club"

    b. School Choices: Even today, more boys than girls choose to study computer science in college

    c. What We See: If you don't see many women doing something, it can be harder to imagine yourself doing it too

The Good News: Lots of smart people and companies are working hard to change this! They want everyone to feel welcome and excited about all parts of tech. They ensure more girls get interested early and that workplaces are super welcoming.

What do YOU think helps make tech more welcoming for everyone? Let's build an #inclusive tech community where every party is a good party for all!

  8. "AI code assistants fuel Python's dominance, creating a feedback loop that risks programming monoculture. Diverse languages like Rust, Erlang, and R offer unique solutions—should we preserve them? "

  14. #GitLab is proposing a badge/credential for #OpenSource projects that would demonstrate that they are working on #diversity, #equity, & #inclusion. gitlab.com/gitlab-com/marketin

This raises many questions. What is the criteria to earn the badge? If GitLab's own example is representative, it doesn't look like much beyond including new contribs. gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab/-

If #Drupal creates a DEI.md, what policies would show our commitment to change? drupal.org/project/governance/

  15. It's 2023. If you still can't find anyone besides your white male friends to speak at conferences, time to step aside and get out of the way.

"Imagine a tech conference having no CFP, as they reach out to speakers directly. They successfully attract some of the most heavy hitter men speakers in tech, and 3 women speakers.

Now imagine my surprise that 2 of those women are FAKE profiles.

    They do not exist.

    Nada."

  16. You can learn a lot about someone's background by asking them to check if a specific IP/port combination is reachable. Some folks still use telnet, while others opt for netcat or socat. Then there are those who will code something in Perl, Python, or Go. They may even use online tools like yougetsignal.com/tools/open-po.

Someone once fired up PowerShell on Linux and typed:

    Test-Connection <IP> -TcpPort <Port>.

I was simultaneously amazed and slightly terrified. 😄

  17. Nice attempt to sweep the problem under the rug, #StackOverflow.

    wired.com/story/stack-overflow

In the organization’s annual survey of its users conducted in 2022, 92 percent of respondents identified as male, and three-quarters as white or European. The platform acknowledged then that it has “considerable work to do.”

But in 2023, Stack Overflow’s survey, published on June 13, stripped out questions about gender and race.
