  1. Happy #BiodiversityDay 🦋🌍

Healthy soils, forests, wetlands and oceans underpin our economies, our health and our security.

The EU is continuing efforts to protect and restore nature ahead of #COP17 in 🇦🇲 Yerevan this October 👉 link.europa.eu/HDnNN6

  2. Today is the International Day for #BiologicalDiversity!

    The #RedListIndex of #ThreatenedSpecies shows a continuous #decline from 0.805 in 1995 to 0.745 in 2025📉 (UN).

This negative #trend is not in line with the aim of @UN #SDG15 to “halt the #loss of #biodiversity”⛔.

  3. For #BiodiversityDay, why not see how crabs live with other species? 🦀🧪🦑 Trapezia defending its coral home; pinnotherids are parasites of bivalves (and more); Porcellana hides out in the shell of a larger hermit crab; mangrove crab burrows maintain nutrients and stability of the community... 1/10

  4. Cllr Áine Groogan said: “Acting locally for global impact starts right here in Northern Ireland. We have the law and the urgent need but what we don’t have is the political will to implement the EPA. That has to change.”

    #BiodiversityDay #NatureNI #GPNI

Our nature is under threat and still don’t have an independent EPA to hold polluters to account. Join us to protect bogs, rivers and pollinators and finally get the EPA we urgently need. 💚 greenpartyni.org/join

  5. Biodiversity Day
For the past month, I have been sharing some of my photos of endangered or vulnerable animals. Today we are celebrating the biodiversity, which is essential to the health of our ecosystems and for us, humans too. Unfortunately, it is in decline due to human activity. Will we be able to halt this decline?

  6. Environmental problems will *never* go away. Not while we are so "successful" in colonizing every nook and cranny of the planet, invading and destroying biological ecosystems and inorganic structures.

What will be a catalyst towards #sustainability is not solving specifically for #climatechange or (celebrated today) #biodiversityday but learning to solve the *entire category*.

Which means inventing tools, contracts, institutions etc. that make living within #planetaryboundaries the norm.

  7. Biodiversity loss threatens our health, food systems & economic resilience.

On #BiodiversityDay, we are reminded that #EUCivilSociety is key to turning #LocalAction into real global impact.

    We must:
    🌱align financing & biodiversity goals;
    🌱strengthen the #OneHealth approach.

  8. Happy International Day for Biological Diversity! 🌱

A diverse ecosystem is a strong ecosystem. In the tech world, NetBSD brings vital diversity by proving that clean, portable, and secure code can run on virtually any architecture. This adaptability keeps computing open and accessible to everyone.

Let's keep the digital ecosystem diverse. Consider supporting the NetBSD Foundation today by contributing code, writing documentation, or making a donation! 💻🚩

  9. Today is International Biodiversity Day. DSMZ’s collection contains over 94,000 bioresources – many of them beeing the unseen architects of soils, oceans and the air we breathe. By preserving, analysing and sharing these tiny life forms we protect the foundations of every ecosystem.

  11. Small-scale actions can make large contributions to #TransformativeChange for a just and sustainable world when they address the underlying causes of biodiversity loss and nature’s decline.

—Dr. Luthando Dziba, IPBES Executive Secretary

This #BiodiversityDay, start acting locally for global impact.

  12. 🌍 25 years of enabling open access to biodiversity data.
🤝 25 years of global collaboration.
🌱 25 years of supporting research and policy worldwide.

    We’re celebrating 25 years of GBIF!!🥳 🎂

Since being established in 2001, our network, infrastructure and impact have grown significantly, now providing access to more than 3.7 billion biodiversity records.

We’re proud to celebrate our history on #InternationalDayForBiologicalDiversity and look forward to our next chapter. 👀

  15. One species a day before Biodiversity Day (22/05).
To round off the series, here’s an animal we searched for for a long time before finally spotting it in 2024: the ever-so-cute but endangered numbat, of which there are said to be just 800 adults left.

For me, the puffin is a symbol of the decline in biodiversity. As a child, I saw them covered in oil on the beaches of Brittany, and now I see their colonies dwindling due to overfishing. Not to mention the puffins found dead on French beaches this winter.
