Not to brag or anything, but last night I finished an Expert-mode play-through of the #LucasFilm classic #Loom . I still enjoy both the story and the idea of note-based verbs in an #AdventureGame.
But this had me thinking about #retro #gaming: We old farts can enjoy games from our childhood using #emulation, #SourcePorts and #ReverseEngineering (case in point: #ScummVM). I’m truly grateful to the hackers who make this possible.

I just found a real gaming gem, completely by accident. Found a Quake 2 source port. As usual you only need the data files to play the game. And it looks and feels like the original too!

Personally I prefer Quakespasm, which makes it run on modern hardware beautifully, while preserves the original - dark - art direction.

You can buy Quake with its two expansion pack from GOG:

Choose a source port (see my post above) and read the instructions. Usually the port needs only the .pak files to work (so if you have the disk version, it works as well). There are many source ports, some looks like the original, others add effects that a modern machine will be tested. The choice is yours.
Also, it doesn't need a Bethesda account, which you might probably need for the remastered version... LOL

I love people who are praising the Quake remastered thing this year, when we have many source ports in the past 20 years. For completely free I might add.
