  2. cOAlition S announces its 2026–2030 strategy, guided by a refreshed, shared vision: a scholarly communication system that enables rapid, open, transparent, and equitable sharing of trustworthy scientific knowledge.

🟠 Three strategic priorities will guide the next phase:

✓ Strengthening the foundations for full, immediate, sustainable, and equitable open access
✓ Supporting digital infrastructure that enable open access
✓ Exploring financially sustainable and equitable publishing systems while monitoring their impact

"As research funders, we want our funding to foster the public good of science through open practices, recognising multiple pathways to open access and working collaboratively with other key stakeholders", says Mari Sundli Tveit, Chair of the cOAlition S Leaders Group.

🟠 The strategy builds on seven years of work since Plan S was launched, while addressing new opportunities and challenges, including Article Processing Charges, equity issues, and the implications of artificial intelligence for scholarly communication.

"We are building on seven years of proven impact while preparing for the challenges and opportunities that will shape the next five years of open science", highlights Lidia Borrell-Damián, Chair of the cOAlition S Executive Steering Group.

  4. The need to make a living means I do not published much, but last year I was able to reflect, with Kerstin von der Krone, on the _History of Knowledge_ blog (historyofknowledge.net) at the end of my 10+ years at the German Historical Institute in Washington, DC.
