@mdione this is similar to a process I've been using to learn the indigenous language of my country, Te Reo Māori, alongside a textbook. It's called Refold;

It's based on learning the 1000 most common words and basic grammar patterns, and using tv shows, films, subtitles and the like to learn and absorb a language - collectively called Comprehensible Input.

State of my anki deck right now.

Total 795

Cards in yellow (41 cards) are removed and put in an archive deck, blue cards (45 cards) are new cards I've not seen yet.

I'm doing alright, most of my cards are mature in this deck so I need to keep on top of just adding new stuff.

In my archive deck (it has cards from all sorts of decks), I currently have 2,367 cards that have been retired from spanish studies. I'll check back on how many I have overall after today.

Not all of the retired cards were T1 cards, most of these were cards where I didn't know almost all of the words in each sentence and it was like hell to get through that stage and learn. 😅 I think I know what I'd do better next time. #anki #languagelearning #ImmersionLearning #Spanish #Refold #Immersion #LanguageLearning #anki

I've let my studies dip a little bit. I've been thinking so much about this new job and worrying that it's been hard to fit Spanish and motivation for Spanish into my brain rn.

I'm trying to keep on keeping on though. The best I can.

I think I'm going to do a similar experiment to the spiderman one but with TED talks. It's probably easier for me to digest because they're a lot shorter but focused on topics I'm interested in. I will shuffle these amongst the shows I'm watching and see if any of it helps at all.

I've looked for 10 TED talks that I will watch atleast 10 times.
The first one was great and I'm glad I chose it because it will help me learn to speak a little more about my identity.

Yesterday was the last day of the 3rd week on the course with Refold.

Some small wins since starting the course:
- I almost have 40 hours logged over the last 3 weeks with anki taking up 14% of the time and 56% of my time has been Netflix.
- I'm on day 18 of my anki streak, it doesn't sound like much but my last streak was only 14 days long.
- All in all I have stayed quite consistent except for yesterday, I didn't finish my anki reps.
- I found some commentary content for big brother and masterchef so I'm going to see if I can find some of those episodes to watch too. It turns out that reality tv is a great source because I can hear normal unscripted conversations.
- Today I did 30 mins of free-flow immersion with La Casa de Las Flores and understood almost everything. There were only a few things I didn't understand or missed per scene but it makes me want to keep trying. Now my brain feels tired but hopefully it gets better. 🥴

Minimising anki time and maximising immersion is one of the best things I've done for my spanish so far though there's still a lot I struggle with, I hope it gets better and better. #LanguageLearning #Anki #langtoot #Refold

You have so many accounts so what's this one for?
This one is for more permanent content e.g. progress logs and self improvement. Other stuff I want to keep on here that I can look back on. Also...the theme is catpeople in space, what more could you ask for?

My main has posts are set to delete after a set amount of time because there are a lot of throw away thoughts on there.

This space is for everynyan whereas my main is more so for friends and allies. In the comming days I will try to make that separation.
