  1. Excited to be at the @dariaheu #DARIAH2026 Annual Event, presenting The #AIncientTutor! 🏛️✨ Developed at the Historisches Seminar of @uzh with Felix Maier, our project reshapes how we learn ancient languages using #LLM support. 🤖📚 By integrating #RAG with NLP pipelines like #LatinCy and #OdyCy, the system dynamically guides learners through unedited primary sources without needing prior annotations.

📜🔍 The platform modularises translation into sequential tasks (identifying clause structures, predicates, & grammatical functions).

🧠💡 All linguistic data is consolidated into a structured, fully inspectable JSON format to encourage critical engagement rather than passive acceptance.

💻📊 Planned extensions include an automated vocabulary trainer for #Anki export, adaptive difficulty, and instructor analytics dashboards.

Anki ist eine Open-Source-Karteikarten-App, die Lerninhalte organisiert und genau dann wiederholt, wenn man sie vermutlich bald vergessen würde.

  14. Более 10 лет Comprehensible Input: The Good, the Bad and the Ugly

  18. Few things are as frustrating as doing daily Anki reviews and realising the amount of things I keep forgetting.

And yet, without Anki I would only know a small fraction of the Japanese words and characters I do now. And even these I would forget.

So, in addition to helping me memorise things, Anki has made me able to *overcome* frustrations and keep going regardless. And this ability translates nicely to all kinds of other areas in life.

Thanks to all the Anki developers for making me a better person.

  26. FSRS для Obsidian: помнить всё

Обсидиан называют «вторым мозгом». Чтобы он им стал, одних связей недостаточно — нужна память . Я сделал плагин интервального повторения на современном алгоритме FSRS . Он запоминает что и когда вы учили, предсказывает что вы вот-вот забудете, и показывает какая тема даётся тяжелее всего. Все данные хранятся локально в ваших .md файлах — ничего не уходит на сервера.

  30. I have a love-hate relationship with Anki.

I've been using it for ages. If I look on my file system, the oldest Anki related file that I have is from 2008... and I'm sure I started using it before this.

    I love Anki's repetition method.

I hate its drill sergeant mentality.

"What? You *think* you little worm can go on vacation? Wait until you come back. I'm going to have you do a marathon 24-hour session, maggot!"

    😩

"What are you talking about, man? You just don't get the Anki philosophy, man!"

    No, I do get it.

I think the return on investment is the best when you are a rank beginner.

Recently I've given up using those sophisticated Spanish decks. First, they all contain mistakes, some worse than others, and there's the problem of synonyms. The more complex the idea expressed by a sentence, the more ways there are to express it. In English, think about the difference between "he hit me in the face" and "he punched me in the face." In most situations, these mean exactly the same thing.

I'm still using Anki for Spanish, but it is in a reduced capacity. I have a deck for conjugations that I created from a database, and I have a deck of "useful expression," also created by me. That's it.

My main Spanish practice now is to listen to songs in Spanish. I go over the lyrics. I make notes about those expressions I don't readily understand, and I listen to the songs over and over.

I expect I'm going to start a musical thread in the fediverse, in Spanish of course, about the songs that I pick. I'll edit this message with a link when I do this.

  34. For #LearningJapanese I have an #anki deck full of Heisig's #Kanji meanings - showing the keyword so I have to draw the Kanji. I've been using it for literally years, and I still mess it up a lot.

It occurred to me that maybe I keep making mistakes because my deck is one-sided, so I decided to get a second deck that shows me the Kanji and forces me to identify the keyword.

Unfortunately, the second deck is from a later edition of the book, often with different keywords 🤦

  39. Ah, I was mixing up 憩 qì (have a rest) and 栖 qī (dwell, stay)!

They don’t look alike at all, but their pronunciation is close and their meaning is kind of close too.

I’ve added the hanzi to my card. I add the two characters that I mix up, and clicking on each of them reveal its pronunciation, meaning and words that contain it (only the one I already know and are already in Anki).

I’ve been doing this for some months now, and it works well! It’s one of the best additions I made to Anki recently (I mean, it suits my way of learning, I know it’s not really how Anki should work.)

It gives an example with "I eat pizza." Except that the picture is not one of someone eating **pizza**.

That is... unless... in that person's country they put pizza through a blender, and drop the result into a bowl.
