Still playing with old #RealPlayer stuff. I managed to dig up the original Real proxy server on an FTP site. With a little fiddling I was able to get it to run on modern Linux!

It's called "RealAudio Proxy 3" but it works with everything up to RealVideo 5.

Putting out a #DigiPres request:
Anyone out there in #RetroComputing fedi have, or know where I could get, #RealPlayer 5, G2, 7, or 8 for #Solaris or #IRIX? Or any other *NIX ports aside from Linux that might be out there?

@JdeBP Hmmm. Just had a look on real.com, and it looks superficially similar to what I remember, although now seems to incorporate the inevitable 'AI' stuff. May need to have a play on the laptop when I get home.

@JdeBP If it still existed in anything like it's original form, I'd probably run it in a Win10 VM or a container.

thanks to @chrisisgr8 , i have learned that RealPlayer11GOLD.deb has been almost completely eradicated from the internet, it's not even on archive.org

RIGHT! I remember when Flash first added video. I was like, "This is gonna change EVERYTHING!"
Before that, it was janky Windows Media feeds, ugh.
And way before that, #RealPlayer. AAAAAAH!!! XP

Kennt noch jemand den #RealPlayer von früher (diese werbeverseuchte Software, die man - wie auch den #Quicktime-Player - für bestimmte Videos gebraucht hat)? Den gibts immer noch, mittlerweile sogar für Smartphones 😁

@Obri Das ist ja schon beinahe so wie bei Radio lora.ch. Die verlangen den #RealPlayer um auf die #Mediathek zugreifen zu können. 😆
