New PiSCSIs finally showed up in the shop this morning (https://www.tindie.com/products/landogriffin/piscsi-full-size-assembled/), so I just placed an order for one 😄
Still not sure what to do about the case, but that's a problem for Future Me.

If any of my #hardwarehacking #hardwarehacker #retrocomputing followers know the answer to this question about troubleshooting physical connectors of a #piscsi / #rascsi device, I'd really appreciate it.
I built one of these about a month ago, and I tested it yesterday on a retro Mac - the drive wasn't detected on the SCSI bus.
I checked the troubleshooting instructions in the #PiSCSI Github Troubleshooting page (https://github.com/PiSCSI/piscsi/wiki/Troubleshooting) and built out a set of jumpers in the DB25 connector, and ran the python test script. The result wasn't good.
I'm now in the process of getting a real DB25 breakout board with a plug so I can rule out my janky jumper wires as a culprit in the test going south. But my question is: If these six pairs of pins (shown in red boxes) are truly not signalling properly...wat do?
I'm not sure where the fault lies - is it a failure of the chips soldered onto the board? There was a lot of surface-mount that ain't perfect but seems to work. Is there some other component that has failed? It's hard to know how to approach the problem at this scale.
Any ideas?

Hey everybody, my 3D printed hard drive bracket for the #Macintosh LC / LC II is now available. It also accommodates a @BlueSCSI or a @piscsi / #RaSCSI https://www.printables.com/model/350208-macintosh-lc-lc-ii-hdd-bracket-with-support-for-bl

Hey #electronics #soldering experts: I assembled this #RaSCSI last week and it seems to work just fine, but I noticed this teensy weensy solder blob just...hanging off the side of one of these tiny SMD pads. It isn't bridging the gap, so I'm wondering if I would make things worse if I tried to remove it.
Is this a disaster in the making or is it safe for me to leave it be?

@smellsofbikes @D4rkm4tter @chetwisniewski now I just need to find that awesome disk image they booted off of at the con. Apparently it's a download but I haven't been able to find it. #RaSCSI

Thanksgiving #mediaarchaeology build project is complete! I got a #RaSCSI kit from a #retro #Mac enthusiast last month at #Saintcon, and finally got around to building it. The #Pi hat emulates a SCSI bus and can be plugged right in to old 68k Macs and used as an external drive, or as a replacement boot drive if installed internally. I can manage disk images stored as files through a web interface or by SCPing into the Pi.
I lost track of the person who gave the kit to me, but I wanted to thank them because this was a huge deal for me. I'm deathly afraid of doing SMB soldering but I managed it anyway. Feels like I leveled up in my build skills with this project. Now I have something that can really help me with archiving and going through Mac disk images, and I'm so grateful. Big shout-out also to @D4rkm4tter for his encouragement and for the most important lesson in choosing the right tip for the soldering job. Thanks also to @chetwisniewski - that's your old Pi B+ under there!

Any #RaSCSI experts about? I've got a v2.4a board. With no SCSI cable attached the transceivers run warm, but when connected to an LSI Ultra320 controller IC4 gets hot enough that I can smell the PCB charring. Going to do some component tests soon, but has anyone seen this before? #retrocomputing

@ActionRetro @redscsi There’s a blurb on their wiki here! https://github.com/akuker/RASCSI/wiki#introduction-and-history
TL;DR:
* RaSCSI (OG), #SCSI for the Sharp X68000 by GIMONS in Japan
* #RaSCSI > RaSCSI Reloaded > RedSCSI > #PiSCSI a fork from the above that significantly evolved on its own and beyond the orignal (which still exists!)—that’s the one you had on your channel!

Ohh, what’s this? Could it be a #BlueSCSI based #RaspberryPi add-on à la #RaSCSI 🤔? https://github.com/RedSCSI #VintageComputing #RedSCSI #SCSI
