  1. #HardwareHacker and #DefCon #BadgeLife friends. I've never done #PCB fabrication (at least, not since the days of single boards with hand drawn tracks dipped in acid baths), if I have the #Gerber files for something I want a small number of before early Aug, is it viable? Where to I start? Recommended providers etc?

  2. CW: Need help moving a retro gaming device

    OK this is an emergency call to my #retrogaming #retrocomputing #mediaarchaeology #hardwarehacker #hacker enthusiast friends in and around the #Denver metro/Front Range/ #Boulder / #ColoradoSprings / #FortCollins area

Urban Putt Denver is, sadly, closing its doors. However, there is an opportunity to rescue a one-of-a-kind stand up arcade game/mini golf "hole" before it ends up in the scrap heap.

Bunker Blast 3000 was designed to resemble a retro 1980s arcade game. As a mini-golf hole, the game is played by putting into a ramp underneath the "arcade" display. Sensors inside the game read the ball's velocity and angle, and the game renders a virtual ball on the screen, rolling through a "game grid" like environment reminiscent of Tron. The game then kicks the ball out for subsequent putt attempts.

The unit is 36 inches wide and roughly 5 to 6 feet tall. It features a color display and custom software that exists as a one-of-a-kind homage to classic arcade games, enclosed in an arcade-style wooden cabinet with custom artwork, and a backlit front display. It is GLORIOUS.

Here's the deal though: This unit needs to be moved THIS SUNDAY, June 11th, when the dismantling of Urban Putt Denver will be going on.

** UPDATE: I have secured a storage unit where I can temporarily hold on to the Bunker Blast, but the unit is extremely heavy, and I can't move it myself. If anyone is available to help, please DM. **

If you know someone who wants, or you yourself want, a collectible and irreplaceable, fully functional and FUN AS HELL objet-d'art for your living room, barcade, or museum, my friend, Urban Putt CEO Steve Fox, will GIVE YOU the item at no charge, if you can bring enough people and a vehicle large enough to carry it away.

DM me for serious inquiries, only. No, it's too heavy to ship out of Colorado unless you're going to put it in your own box truck and carry it yourself.

    Please repost widely. Thank you!

  3. If any of my #hardwarehacking #hardwarehacker #retrocomputing followers know the answer to this question about troubleshooting physical connectors of a #piscsi / #rascsi device, I'd really appreciate it.

I built one of these about a month ago, and I tested it yesterday on a retro Mac - the drive wasn't detected on the SCSI bus.

I checked the troubleshooting instructions in the #PiSCSI Github Troubleshooting page (github.com/PiSCSI/piscsi/wiki/) and built out a set of jumpers in the DB25 connector, and ran the python test script. The result wasn't good.

I'm now in the process of getting a real DB25 breakout board with a plug so I can rule out my janky jumper wires as a culprit in the test going south. But my question is: If these six pairs of pins (shown in red boxes) are truly not signalling properly...wat do?

I'm not sure where the fault lies - is it a failure of the chips soldered onto the board? There was a lot of surface-mount that ain't perfect but seems to work. Is there some other component that has failed? It's hard to know how to approach the problem at this scale.

    Any ideas?

  4. in the spirit of Christmas (I don't like christmas) I am making lists.

For lack of algorithms (yay!) It's a bit of work to get my timeline to be more like I want (nay!).

More naughty than nice because I miss a steady stream of #hardwarehacker content on my timeline

I should probably check if I can take my lists with me when I inevitably change instances.

I wish I could see other local timelines as a pinned column on the desktop version.
