  1. Little else in the realm of thought has done as much social damage to #minorities, than the so called "#woke-ideologies" themselves. Their core proposition was that a #color blind, #gender blind society was intrinsically prejudiced out of its very neutrality. The only way to solve this problem, or so they said, was to appropriate the #ethnonationalism mindframe in full, forgetting all pretentions of identitarian neutrality, and putting it to work in reverse; that is, against the priviledged majorities.

I spent 25 years denouncing this anti-secular #ideology from the kitchen of #postmodernism, paying huge personal costs in income, career and friendship. I did it anyway, because I knew this doctrine was, both directly and indirectly, nothing more than the old fascism being thinly disguised and merely relabeled as a #progressive stance. I failed, and now we're seeing the consequences all around us.

When societies in the #west were still color blind, the majorities had good reasons to believe they enjoyed priviledges in their material life after all, so they put some personal effort to make up for it out of guilt. Today, the system is delivering a very different message to them: "you're wrong... in fact you're all being personally discriminated against, because we favor only minorities by introducing #quotas on the strict basis of their #identity. We don't work for the benefit of the general population at all. What we truly want is to make victims out of the average masses". Can somebody experience any surprise from the fact that literal #nazis are now ruling the world as a reaction? After the second world war, ethnonationalism became political taboo even for the right. This #Loki trickster god was finally freed from its prison once the #left, and none other than the left, gave validation to this world view by importing racial categories into its own political thinking. And the left did so, in part, because adopting merely symbolic and targeted approaches to "#socialjustice" was far easier, for electoral purposes, than actually introducing economic reforms to deal with the deeper problems.

It almost seems to late, but progressives need to denounce this ideology throughly, placing it forever and ever in the garbage bin. Mind you, not to abandon the sectors which were always handicapped because of #bigotry. On the contrary. They need to support them more than ever before... but they have to do so through a fair and neutral approach, and above all, by tackling the wider social problems affecting us all. Racism can't be cured with more #racism, or even so-called "reverse-racism". Let the #minorities alone waving their flags... it's their right and duty, and what they are or how they view themselves is not your business. See the world though the prisma of identities, on the other hand, and you're already empowering the #farRight with your messaging.

  17. CW: "Don't go to the US - Not with Trump in charge"

The dream holiday ended abruptly on Friday 26 September, as British tourists Karen and Bill Newton were trying to leave the US.
When they crossed the border, Canadian officials told them they didn’t have the correct paperwork to bring the car with them.
They were turned back to Montana on the American side – and to US border control officials.
Bill’s US visa had expired; Karen’s had not.

“I worried then,” she says. “I was worried for him. I thought, well, at least I am here to support him.”

She didn’t know it at the time, but it was the beginning of an ordeal that would see Karen handcuffed,
shackled and sleeping on the floor of a locked cell,
before being driven for 12 hours through the night to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention centre.
Karen was incarcerated for a total of six weeks – even though she had been travelling with a valid visa.

    Karen has no criminal record.
She is a grandmother who spent eight years working as an admin assistant at a primary school before her retirement.
“I don’t even have parking tickets in the background anywhere,” she says.
“I am not a dangerous criminal.
I didn’t enter the country illegally and I had everything I needed to be there.”

So why did ICE detain her, and keep her locked up for so long?
A possible answer began to emerge over the weeks she was incarcerated.
As Karen got to know the guards at the Northwest ICE Processing Center where she was held, she kept hearing the same thing from them:
🔥that ICE officers are paid a bonus every time they detain someone.

“Individual ICE agents get money per head that they detain – the guards told me that,” Karen says.
It’s no secret that the Trump administration has been pouring money into ICE.
    Its annual budget – $6bn a decade ago – is now $85bn;
⚠️ICE is now the highest -funded law enforcement agency in the US.
Since last August, new recruits can expect to receive a signing-on bonus of up to $50,000.
Karen’s experience has left her convinced that ICE agents are being given even more incentives
    – to arrest and detain anyone they possibly can, even blameless tourists who have all the paperwork they need to be in the US.

Within days of Donald Trump’s second inauguration on 20 January 2025, his administration ordered ICE officials to detain more people,
with new #quotas that would increase the total number of arrests from a few hundred to 1,200-1,500 a day.
Reports immediately began to emerge of international travellers being detained by ICE officers.
