  1. @kgw I use #BC but I can’t remember if I’ve used #QualicumBeach or #QB before.

  2. I am seeing more use of the #fediverse and #mastodon in my local area and hope to see it grow.

Sorting out the most effective #hashtags to use could help.

Home for me is #QualicumBeach but does #qualicum do the job?

There is more than one #parksville which may be why #ParksvilleBC is also used.

Both the more popular #vancouverisland and the more efficient #vanisle are in use. #Oceanside has uses.

Does #BC work or should we use #britishcolumbia?

    Any thoughts? Are there others?

What started as a small effort to protect local #biodiversity has now turned into a crucial part of reducing wildfire risk in the critical urban-wildfire interface, with the City of #Nanaimo partnering with the organization to remove the #InvasiveSpecies from city parks.

  9. A full day yesterday. We delivered some pickled salmon to an elder at #Stzuminus, checked in on my 88 y/o mom in #QualicumBeach, went up to Mt Washington in #ComoxValley to play in the snow then had lunch at the #FannyBay Inn on the way home. Best fries on #VancouverIsland and the hazy IPA reminds me of the Hanalei IPA from #Kona Brewing Co. Heck of a day. #pnw #VancouverIsland

  10. The problem is the connection between the 91 and 15 at Woodgrove. The worst part is it’s like they are intentionally making it as bad as possible by teasing us with buses that leave just before the other bus arrives. The culprit for the giant wait is the morning commute.

The 15 leaves Woodgrove for VIU at 7:06, 3 minutes before the 91 gets there at 7:09. They even made the 91 *earlier* but didn’t think to match it with the 15? It makes no sense.

And the one that *does match up* with a later bus takes an extra long route and doesn’t arrive at VIU until 8:23AM, seven minutes before classes start. The two earliest buses used to arrive between 7:30 and 8:00.

    Meanwhile, it takes 59 minutes for me to drive from home to VIU. Insanity. #Nanaimo #Parksville #QualicumBeach #VIU #transit #commuting #bus #work #life #carculture #rail

  11. I was looking at the upcoming bus 🚎 schedule for my work day commute to VIU. They generally make minor changes and release a new schedule every Spetember.

Depending how I feel and the day of the week, I catch the bus at Woodgrove (North #Nanaimo), #Parksville or #QualicumBeach and take it to #VIU. I have been doing this since they started their “Intercity” run around 2008. I’ve been riding the bus system nearly every year since 1998.

It has felt like this commuter service has been getting gradually worse over the years, but I never sat down and tracked it. That is until yesterday when I realized they introduced a new 33min wait time in addition to other small increases adding 45min to my journey!

It’s outrageous. So I made a spreadsheet of the schedules since 2015 (the furthest back I could find schedules) and, well, it is depressing. And they wonder why they can’t encourage people to take the bus!! 😆 😠 😢

Meanwhile traffic gets worse and worse, accidents and stoppages are frequent and the rail line that follows the bus route is ignored. What are we doing!?🤦‍♂️
