I think these predatory journals are really onto something with this idea that they should tell us how much of their «Original Article(s)» are allowed to be plagiarized.

#PredatoryJournal is a complex issue. I consider that we should focus on two things: 1. Support researchers before they submit a Paper, 2. Reform #ResearchAssessment

Reviewer2 bewertet mit "minor Revisions" also durchaus okaye Arbeit.

Satz 1 seines Reviews:
"Es ist erforderlich, dass die Autor*innen folgende zwei relevante Arbeiten zitieren:
doi.org/10.3390/xxxx
doi.org/10.3390/yyyy ."

Habe nachgeschaut. Ich kenne jetzt Reviewer2.
Und es sind (mMn) auch keine richtige Veröffentlichungen, sondern es gehört zu einem #Raubjournal (#predatoryJournal).

Ansonsten hält sich der Reviewer zurück und weist nur auf zwei drei kleinere Punkte hin.

This is weird, two papers with the same name. The new one appears to be a plagiarized version of the old one, but the text is different. (Perhaps edited with a LLM?)

What do you think is the point here - is the idea to siphon off citations intended for the other paper? Are the authors real, or is the whole thing just made up as fake data for a predatory journal?

Why change the text, but not the title?

Sometime #PredatoryJournal are funny with 1998 websites

Getting way too many spam invitations to submit a manuscript (17+ today) or to speak at a conference. Trying to train my spam filter to recognize them, but it only caught 11 of them today. Wish there was an effective way to filter out all of them.

So if you get an invitation from a journal you don't know to submit a paper or join its #editorial board, how do you know it is a valuable opportunity or just another #predatoryjournal exploiting you?

My personal checklist:
- do I know the person inviting me?
- do I know anyone on the editorial board?
- do I know anyone who has published in the journal?

If it's 3x 'No' you should not even respond to the invitation.

@macroliter @alexcc yeah... there's a nihilism to publishing (earned), but I asked if there really were differences among the publishers folks often discuss as #PredatoryJournal (e.g. Frontiers, MDPI). Poll found at least the rep is different. Then in analysis, found the same trend in terms of insular citations within network compared to expectation (via IF/SJR ratio).

#MDPI really is comparable to proper predatory publishers like Bentham or OMICS.
