A few months ago I was going to give a talk on the impact of #CreativeCommons licenses on #AcademicJournal. What I noted is that the literature is relatively old.

It doesn't seem that the discussion updated to new trends such like #ResearchData or #ArtificialIntelligence #ai

This could be an opportunity for research and publishing

#AcademicJournal metadata... an important topic when you're trying to collect all the #DiamondOA journals in Europe (ddh.diamas.org) because only certain journals qualify. The last para says it all - "eLife’s model ultimately leaves it up to readers to evaluate a paper’s merits based on its text and accompanying peer reviews, because of the absence of an “accept” or “reject” decision by editors. But Schekman calls that “wishful thinking” and says the editors’ decision helps readers. “Who has the time [to read that content]? When it comes to open access maybe it’s time to acknowledge that the didactic model is just not going to work.

Think about the number of peer-reviewed journal articles that, even after all these years, still make the kind of mistakes that could be caught by a quick online search. Or all those newspapers and magazines that continue to commission opinion pieces from authors who aren’t really on top of the subject.

If these people wanted to learn surely they would have by now. Clearly they don’t, whether it’s for reasons of politics, profit, wishful thinking or just an ingrained professional conservativism. So, rather than producing an endless stream of books, essays, statements, reports, interviews, conference papers and social media posts trying to engage with them, might we not be better off directing our time and energy elsewhere?
