  10. I wish #academics understood that simply being in their presence doesn't do jack sh$t for anyone- it's about stuff from the project itself. 'I existed in xyz lab' wont get you a job cleaning dishes in the real world.

If you hire an independent researcher to do X and then say let's just do Y four months into the process, you've screwed him over.

Why, why do I have to keep making posts like these?

  11. A longitudinal study of ~ 500 children in Singapore examined their academic performance and working memory at ages 9 and 10.5 relative to parent reports of their children's screen viewing time at ages 1, 1.5, 2, 3, 6, and 8 years. Greater screen time at ages 1 and 6 were associated with poorer academic performance at age 9.5 and poorer working memory at age 10.

  12. A quotation from Bertrand Russell

I am sure that university life would be better, both intellectually and morally, if most university students had temporary childless marriages. This would afford a solution to the sexual urge neither restless nor surreptitious, neither mercenary nor casual, and of such a nature that it need not take up time which ought to be given to work.

Bertrand Russell (1872-1970) English mathematician and philosopher
Education and the Social Order [Education and the Modern World], ch. 9 “Sex in Education” (1932)

  13. This will go poorly for The Jews™ 🫠

"#Australian #universities will be required to adopt definitions on #antisemitism, #Islamophobia and #racism towards #Aboriginal and #TorresStraitIslander people from next year, under a legally enforceable standard designed to stamp out #discrimination on #campuses.

Details of the #antiracism standard will be published on Monday as #university bosses, #students and #academics prepare to appear at the royal commission into antisemitism and social cohesion.

A separate set of governance principles will also become enforceable standards, including an obligation on public universities to publish vice-chancellor salaries, spending on consultants and the outcome of board meetings.

The introduction of a formal anti-racism standard was part of the antisemitism plan that the federal government published after the #Bondimassacre, and a recommendation from the #HumanRightsCommission’s landmark report on racism at #Australia’s universities."
