  1. The concept of #predatoryDelay is so very useful to understand the incentive structures of our fossil-economy. It also maps well to other phenomena of rent seeking and exploitation:

It does not matter to billionaires, if current strategies of exploitation are unsustainable. The reckoning is future billionaires' problem, so the hoarding in the presence will continue unabated.

Threats of future consequences are no threats at all, all that matters is the present. Hence delaying the future.

  2. reason.com/2022/12/05/ron-desa “These improvements are marginal, but they're improvements nonetheless. DeSantis' administration is going to great lengths to stop them from happening, including making novel arguments about the expansive powers of state regulators.” #gainesville #florida #zoning #predatorydelay #housing #desantis #shortage #inflation

  3. @cityobs “In 2009, the Oregon Legislature—as part of a compromise with environmentalists concerned about the added driving promoted by highway projects—enacted a state law directing ODOT to implement a road pricing demonstration project no later than September, 2012” #climate #predatorydelay

  4. theguardian.com/environment/20 “Cop28 must deliver a decision on phasing out fossil fuels in a just and equitable manner, without any loopholes or escape routes for the industry to continue expanding and exacerbating the climate crisis” #cop28 #climate #predatorydelay #phaseout

  5. So will #Starmer's #Labour immediately commit to reversing #Sunak's #PredatoryDelay #climate announcement?
I'm not holding my breath but would like to be pleasantly surprised.
Even better would be a commitment to rapid decarbonisation.

  6. RT @: It is in the interests of the vast majority of humanity to move as quickly as possible on climate action and ruggedization.

That those delaying action benefit from their delays while others suffer the losses is what makes those delays predatory.

  7. This cartoon hits hard.

It hits even harder when you notice the 2007 publication date in the lower right corner.
