  1. In what should be the most obvious ruling in the world, the CA Supreme Court has ruled that trying to avoid contact with the police is not probable cause for the police to detain you. Duh.

    "But before an officer can compel compliance with a show of authority... articulable facts must support a reasonable suspicion of criminal activity. In the absence of such facts, the person is constitutionally protected and empowered to go on his or her way."

    The cops don't like this, but that's too damned bad. People have a right to be out in public and to be left alone to go about their business if they're not doing anything illegal. I don't care how butthurt a cop might feel about that person existing outdoors.
