Survival Mode On! 🌱

Looking at my chili plants, I can totally feel the "survive mode." After pruning them, I'm hoping they’ll save enough energy to come back stronger next year.

Kinda feels like me right now. I've blocked out everything that's not essential until the end of the year so I can focus on finishing some writing. 📝✨

This chili plant looks pretty sad right now and probably won’t make it through the winter.

I'm hoping a few can make it inside. Fingers crossed that most of them survive until our community greenhouse is ready! 🤞

And just in case none of my chilies make it, I’ve got plenty of seeds (Habanero & Ufo), plus a new one: Lemon Drop! Can’t wait to try these – they’re so delicious!

Check out this hilarious pic of a chili plant getting a shower! 🫣 Unfortunately, it was a must due to some pesky lice.

I've found the perfect new home for my chillis: our Community Greenhouse!

We're busy setting up a greenhouse where people can garden together. We've already got a place, we know exactly what kind of greenhouse we want and we've got the green light from the municipality for funding this project.

This week we had our first big meeting and it was so inspiring to see so many enthusiastic people!

Harvesting chillies. Today, we gathered another incredible batch. Remember, though—always wear gloves when handling chillies. A friend thought he could go without, and now his hands are feeling the heat! To soothe the burn, a quick wash with washing-up liquid (no water) followed by Aloe Vera does wonders. 🌶️

I've been growing chilli plants since February and they've been thriving! Now that autumn is here and the temperature is dropping below 10°C at night, I've decided to bring some of the plants into my bedroom to share my space with them. And look how well they're doing! Even though the season is almost over, they've had a boost and the plant is full of ripe chillies!

It's Sunday, which means it's chilli time!

I've just harvested the Ufo chillies and found some little helpers. Amazingly, this snail seems to not mind the capsaicin at all. (Oh, and I used gloves to harvest the chillies!)

Guess what! I harvested another 400g of gorgeous habanero chillies today. I put them in the oven at 60° for 10 hours to dry them out. I'd already pickled the first batch (also 400g) in oil, and they were so good!

I'd absolutely love to hear any great ideas or recipes on how to make a large quantity of chillies keepable.

Oh, I can really enjoy watching the chillies ripen. But it is also a bit nerve-wracking trying to sort out when to pick them for their flavour without knowing exactly when they are ripe enough.

I'm a bit worried. My chillies are generally doing well, but I have just found this chilli fruit. It is the only one that is already turning orange (the rest are still green) but has a huge hole. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this?

No more room on the coffee table. I moved all 54 chilli plants inside because of the weather forecast: hail and tornadoes.

Woo-hoo! My first chilli fruit started to appear.

I am a bit proud that I have managed to put the plants outside every morning to let the insects do the pollination.

Fingers crossed that the other flowers will turn into chilli peppers too.

I think I need to do some repotting :). My chilli plants grow very differently. Some are just little babies and others are quite big.

The smallest one in the picture is a plant that is always outside. As a newbie to chilli growing, I wanted to see if this would work.

Dear all, a little update on my question from last week about the strange shape of the leaves on some of my chillies: I think it was a lack of nutrients, as after repotting and adding extra nutrients the new leaves look very healthy again. Thank you again for your suggestions.

I never expected to be so attached to chili plants.Three months ago I started with seeds and now they have become little bauties. A few days ago some of them looked a bit sick, but it seemed to be a lack of nutrition. They also survived a hailstorm. My babies are growing so well. Now you can clearly see the difference between the two types of chillie plant: On the left a Habanero, a bit bushy, and on the right an Ufo, a taller plant.
Next week will be the first time I leave my sweethearts alone for a few days. I am curious to see how they look when I get back.

By the way, the repotting of the chillies went well. Now each plant has its own pot, but I will keep them indoors for a bit longer due to the weather forecast (storm and ground frost) for the next few days. Although it looks very sunny at the moment :)

I'm a bit fond of my cute chili plants.

Yesterday I did some transplanting. I put the seedlings from the growtabs into small terracotta pots with soil. Today I am enjoying watching them grow. I can't get enough of them....
