Some people should not be driving. I should not have to chase you down and point out you’re sitting at the wrong house. #Paratransit #OffToWork

New video from @Aubrie and me, and it somehow includes sports commentary? But it’s mostly about paratransit. https://youtu.be/82hY_a480k8

When the bare fucking minimum of car safety is "fancy" I hope that means you've done some clean up of your transport agency. #paratransit #mtm

Transportation as a disabled person who doesn't drive is a sector that needs like. 10000000% improvement. Just improving the reach, depth, safety, and comfort of public transit would do a lot, but where we NEED to be on time bc appointments...
Better options than ableist paratransit that sucks at being on time (largely due to staffing, which is in large part due to sucky wages and also people cannot handle the fact disabled ppl have AGENCY and are Real People Thanks) or an agency associated with your insurance/healthcare facility of choice that mostly schedules you free lyfts. Which has a bug-filled app and requires an exorbitant number of phone calls to make work smoothly.
Like. What. Why are these the options???
Sometimes I am REALLY forcefully reminded I'm older than the ADA and that the ADA is selectively enforced as often as can be gotten away with.
"Ugly laws" weren't THAT long ago, y'all. Stand up and demand better for disabled ppl - *preferably* by boosting disabled voices.

@heliomass totally agree, and there is so much to do too.
I will add to this that the #CAQ government has decided to cut funding for new elevators in 6 more subway station. They are expensive but absolutely necessary for many people, potential "clients" who will start using public transport instead of relying on cars or #paratransit
#Montreal associative sector is trying its best to include public transportation in its revendications. We organized a protest a few weeks ago and more actions should be organized this fall for better funding for the #STM and regional public transit.

A local group wants to make it easier for people needing #paratransit to easily get on board services across #Ontario. Paratransit is for people who cannot easily access #PublicTransit due to their age or #disability.
The goal is to create a #ProvinceWide eligibility process so that qualified people can use specialized public transit services anywhere in Ontario. This can be very important for those who need to travel for treatment or appointments to different cities.

LBT: I'm now dealing with having to "prove" I need paratransit (in the US, that's the term for door-to-door public transit for people who can't use an ordinary bus/train).
Several pages for me, a few pages for my doctor, and then *they* will have *me* come to their office for an evaluation--just to be sure.
(They'll provide transportation for the evaluation, but I somehow doubt they'll be providing home care for the 3-5 days of #PEM that will follow it.)
But if I don't do this, I can't get to, say, a doctor's appointment without my wife taking half a day off work.

I had missed this story from a few months ago. How UCLA - considered by some as the #1 public university in the USA - has major issues with its campus transport system for disabled students. Many thanks to its student newspaper for covering the topic.
