The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 40:
A brawl with a Fungal Mummy has left my dude with a nasty infliction: mushrooms growing beneath my skin. The clerics of Glosterwick can’t help, and the capital is a month’s journey away.
With the sickness fast progressing, we head back into the dungeon. Eccentric mage Kerbal Khan’s automatons may be able to fix me, but in addition to invasive treatments we’re expected to handle a new side quest…

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 39:
Last couple sessions were devoted to a goblin treasure hunt, this session was devoted to carting a heavy golden sarcophagus back to town so we could benefit from our own scavenged treasure.
Fighting past albino baboons and giant chameleons, we left Arden Vul and returned to town. Made a tidy profit and ingratiated ourselves with the town’s ruler, who wants us to find treasures to advance her political standing vs her brother.

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 38:
The goblin escort quest continues!
After facing stirges, skeletons, and skeletal stirges, we managed to find a unique flute (a symbol of office) that the goblin revolutionaries can use to challenge the current goblin king’s authority.
Now we’ve got to decide how involved we want to get in goblin politics AND also how to extricate some valuable but unwieldy treasure (a gold sarcophagus and an amphora filled with solid gold).

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 37:
Goblins in tow, we launched an offensive on the fungal mummy and carnivorous plants that were responsible for a near TPK several sessions ago.
Recovered some good loot, but the goblins dragged us away to continue THEIR quest, to a recover a staff that’ll give them the authority to overthrow the current goblin king.
We think the staff is in a cave accessible via a ceiling shaft and swarming with stirges…

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 35:
We put the Forum of Set behind us, leaving with a platoon of goblins headed to the Fungal Forest to look for some treasure they’re in search of.
Along the way we chart a new path to familiar territory, but find room after room of blatant puzzle devices. We mark them on our map for future investigation.
-
The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 34:
We spent some time in the Hall of Set, hoping to buy the freedom of a priestess of Mitra sold into slavery.
We probably could’ve been more subtle with our inquiries, but it became pretty clear that they have big (sacrificial) plans for her, that she wouldn’t be available at a price we can afford, and that breaking her out of jail would be incredibly difficult and alienate the entire Setite faction.
So we chickened out. 🐔

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 32:
After a brief stop at the Troll Hall arena, we convinced some beastmen into escorting us back to their home territory (we only vaguely knew the direction).
We brought a big supply of their favorite mushrooms, hoping to trade them for a kidnapped priestess of Mitra, but appears she’s already been sold as a slave to Set-worshippers.
After introducing ourselves to the Eastman matriarch, we plan to head to the Setite camp.
-
The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 30:
Another talky session. We continued our (peaceful) exploration of the Troll Halls, talking to various inhabitants trying to suss out the different local factions and find a way to involve ourselves and gain some influence. Got some leads, but need to poke around more.
We also visited the Troll Market, which seems like a massive upgrade over the goblin equivalent.

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 28:
We recovered the bodies of two dead party members and bought another teleport back to town from mage Kerbal Khan. We left the henchman to recuperate, but once our half-orc fighter was up it was back into the dungeon.
Trolls had bullied and extorted our goblin kingdom allies in our absence. We knew of a friendly half-troll, so we went to speak with him to get some inside info before our “diplomatic mission” to see the trolls.

These days, I’d probably say #SwordsAndWizardry or #OldSchoolEssentials just for ease of use and adaptability, although I have a fondness for the #RulesCyclopedia too.
For more complexity, I’d say #OSRIC—I’m eagerly awaiting the new version being printed by Mythmere Games (and in landscape form too!)
But it has to have some weirdness to it, as you say!

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 27:
After last week’s near TPK, the gnome cleric rounded up some fresh suckers in town and rushed back into the dungeon to recover the loot off our dead bodies before it’s digested by the plant monsters that killed us.
The half-orc fighter is a candidate for Raise Dead, but (as per the AD&D 1e rules) because elves don’t have souls my dead thief is SOL.
My new human fighter discovered a magical sword that is smarter than he is.

:-) Lesenswert: #pnpde #osric

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 23:
First session of the year!
During a rare visit to civilization we did some shopping, banking, and got registered as wardens (sanctioned adventurers) with the local government.
I was hoping to use the magical ring’s Wish for something cooler, but I was outvoted. We used it to remove Thoth’s curse.
We headed back into the dungeon via a new secret entrance and made friendly contact with a beastman patrol.

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 22:
After licking our wounds from the baboon fight, we decided to head back to civilization to get rid of an inconvenient divine curse that was making us slow to react in combat. The priestess of Mitra decided it was more than she could handle, however.
Had some dungeon treasure Identified, but it was mostly junk. We DO now have a ring with a single Wish, though. Should we Wish away the curse, or think bigger?

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 20:
After donating a bunch of silver and copper treasure (that we couldn’t have easily retrieved anyway) to the goblin kingdom, we were introduced to their version of high society. Met some important-seeming folks, both goblins and emissaries from elsewhere.
One of the other players was anxious to get back to the dungeon crawling, but I thought it was interesting learning about the various dungeon factions.

The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 17:
Having established friendly “diplomatic relations” with the pyramid’s goblin kingdom, we spent the session poking around their territory. We spent an exorbitant amount of gold on magical curiosities in the goblin market, most of it of dubious utility.
After two characters died without reaching level two, my third PC has achieved level four. Hopefully I can keep my elven thief alive for the rest of the campaign.
-
The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 16:
After evicting the surviving handful of halfling gangsters from their pyramid hideout, we explored our new territory. Apart from some loot, the rooms were mostly trashed, but we managed to befriend our new neighbors: a goblin kingdom opposed to the halflings.
We’re debating how entangled we want to get with these new allies. It’s good to have friends, but they’re hostile to a different group we don’t have any beef with.
-
The Halls of Arden Vul (OSRIC) Session 10: we decided to follow up on info we received from the metal dragonfly construct calling itself Kerbal Khan. We found a passage that linked back to familiar ground (the lair of a halfling gang). Got into a tense battle with an animated dust whirlwind. The cleric kept the blinded, choking fighter up until he slew it, while I (Lvl 1 elf thief) flailed around on ineffectively on the sidelines.
Still, happy to have survived the session.

Witchbreed of the Sunken Vale is up on #DriveThruRPG (system neutral, free download)
The Sunken Vale was formerly known as the Mournes of Dónairt, referring to the burial place of the mythic hero who served Nuada of the Silver Hand. It is rumoured he was buried with the magical Sword of Light, but his tomb can only be opened on the eve of the solstice.

@randomwizard When I ran #OSRIC , I was aware of the segment ordering. Roll 1d6 for initiative for each side and the highest roll goes first. This means that they go on the earliest segment, determined by swapping die results with the other side. If the DM rolls a 2 for the monsters and the party rolls a 5, the party acts first, in segment 2 and the monsters act in segment 5. This didn't affect much because those rules didn't have a stats for weapon speed and such.

#introduction Hello! I am a #sysadmin for #linux systems and interested in #privacy #federation and #horizontalism (in an organizational/political sense). With a sprinkle of #psychology and #philosophy thrown in.
I am an #OSR gamer and run one #OSRIC based game in meatspace and one #1e #PbP.
My actual system is base OSRIC with some "secret sauce" OSR bits thrown in. Rounding out with a sprinkle of #Dragonsfoot Footprints articles and my own houserules wiki.
