#swordsandwizardry — Public Fediverse posts

I had no interest in old #DnD versions before encountering the #OSR which settled on #BX as a base. (This is the version of Basic D&D that came before the famous "red box" BECMI one that was the first one I saw IRL.)

This led me on a journey to explore other versions - #HolmesBasicDnD, the #3LBB books, the supplements to those, retroclones like #SwordsAndWizardry and #WhiteBoxFMAG, and now I think I've done my exploration and ended up back where I started, with B/X. The difference being that I can explain _why_ now.

(Short version: it's more coherent and finished than Holmes and earlier, yet still without the complications and level/power inflation of #BECMI or #ADnD.)

These days, I’d probably say #SwordsAndWizardry or #OldSchoolEssentials just for ease of use and adaptability, although I have a fondness for the #RulesCyclopedia too.

For more complexity, I’d say #OSRIC—I’m eagerly awaiting the new version being printed by Mythmere Games (and in landscape form too!)

But it has to have some weirdness to it, as you say!

Ich glaube, ich habe den Text zu einem Langzeitprobjekt angeschlossen – einem OSR Abenteuer für #SwordsAndWizardry, an dem ich bestimmt seit 3 Jahren schreibe. Ich schaue noch einmal und dann finalisiere ich die Karten. Aber ja, ich glaube das war’s.

Day 21: Classic Campaign

I tend to fall out of love with pre-written campaigns pretty quick.

The first two campaigns I ran were interlinked though one was run with #SwordsAndWizardry and the other with #ADND

They took place in fantasy Europe with fantasy creature stereotypes assigned to country stereotypes. So like French elves who have a superiority complex and hate the German Dwarves. And the German Dwarves had death magic inspired by the Darkness series by Harry Turtledove.

Ich wünsche erst mal einen guten Start in die Woche.

Heute Abend starte ich #Barrowmaze mit #SwordsAndWizardry. Es ist echt lange her, also so 30 Jahre oder so, dass ich nen Dungeon Crawl geleitet habe. Ich bin gespannt und hoffe, dass ich es gut hin bekomme.

Ich werde berichten wie es läuft. Mit CN zwecks Spoiler wo nötig.

Grabbed some #odnd sources lately. White Box (FMAG) in print, and #swordsandwizardry in pdf. I was not a gamer Back in the Day, but I'm loving the simplicity and pure fun, along with low fantasy adventure that these promise. Looking forward to #soloroleplaying with them or maybe even joining or dm'ing a group. Hit me up with resources! I've dm'ed 3.5e, 5e, and Shadowdark. Also looking for #sandbox tips.
