In my YouTube channel, I only review or mention products or game rules that I've played or at least own and read cover to cover. I've been a big fan of Old-Schoo Essentials for 2+ years, and recently got Shadowdark (and love it). I'm also a BECMI grognard who cut his teeth on the purple box Basic Set (Moldvay) and AD&D.
Should I get Dolmenwood and add that to the mix? Is it different enough to be worth the time/expense?

These days, I’d probably say #SwordsAndWizardry or #OldSchoolEssentials just for ease of use and adaptability, although I have a fondness for the #RulesCyclopedia too.
For more complexity, I’d say #OSRIC—I’m eagerly awaiting the new version being printed by Mythmere Games (and in landscape form too!)
But it has to have some weirdness to it, as you say!

Why is it in #DndD style games that the characters with the highest INT and WIS are the ones that inevitably do the most stupid things?
The adventuring continued last night with the first combat for our group.
The 'smart wise' fighter decides to smash a flaming torch into a flask of oil they are holding. Not just burning themselves, but also the Magic User and my Elf, plus the ex-enemy I had just cast Charm Person on.
Everyone else, friends and enemies, just looked on in confusion.

I'm setting up an OD&D campaign for my kids and their friends. Since it's their first time playing D&D I'm leaving them complete freedom while making the characters, as long as they fit the rules. This has already yielded an uncharismatic elven muscle-mommy and a lawful thief with a battle axe. This is gonna be fun.

To clarify, it's not going to be 'DnD' I'll be playing if thing pan out, but the #OldSchoolEssentials #RPG . Which, in my ancient opinion, appears to be more DnD than official DnD.

I've started playing a #SoloRPG campaign in my homebrew world, using the #OldSchoolEssentials rules. Pretty much the first thing that happened when we arrived in the city was that my companion NPC managed to get herself arrested by the city guards after she got jumped by a bunch of thugs, because she rolled a nat 1 on her Reaction roll when the guards interrogated her. So now my PC is all alone in the big city. Was not expecting this.

Having run Old School Essentials for awhile, I gotta say that the Sleep spell is as broken as I remember from D&D. It can completely shut down a low level encounter. A 1st level Magic User will be useless for the rest of the day, but that encounter is solved. I just tell the players how much treasure their characters find and move on after that spell gets cast.
Am I going to house rule it? Absolutely not. Sometimes the players need a win button.
