#RPGaday2024 I missed the last two days! Here's my attempt to catch up.
30: Person I'd like to game with.
I admire a lot of Rae Nedjadi's work, as well as the work Lowell Francis does for the Open Hearth gaming community. If one day we can sit down at the same table I have a feeling that would be so much fun.
31. Game or Gamer I miss.
A friend of mine moved away to a different province and we haven't really be able to roleplay together since. I miss the magic they brought to the table.

31. Game I miss. Towards the end of 3.5 when Pathfinder first got big, there was a buzz of excitement in my group at the time. We were very excited for Pathfinder, the way it felt streamlined and the art was refreshing. We had some great games. It's a little funny because when I peruse those books now, they feel a little overwhelming with all the rules and blocks of text. Just reflects how my tastes have changed. Makes me think I'll prob never go back to that game. But I do miss it on some level and hold onto the books. #RPGaDay2024

#RPGaDay2024 Day 31
In 2001 I moved to Baltimore and started adult life. I’d played AD&D during high school but hadn’t been able to fit it into college. After a few months at my new job, a few coworkers invited me to start up a d20 Star Wars game with them because I seemed "the #ttrpg type.” Why yes, yes I was. We played every Tuesday evening, and it was crucial for me settling into a new city and forging new friendships. Work took me away from Baltimore a decade ago, and I miss that old gang!

#RPGaDAY2024 Day 31 - Game or gamer you miss
I moved into the Big City a few years ago, and thus had to find new groups. So I miss both my smalltown group (although we already never played that regularly anymore) and games I ran back then when I didn't have to appeal to the common core game that is The Dark Eye. #gurps especially.

Day 30 of the #RPGaDAY2024 challenge and I talk about people that I'd like to play a #TTRPG with.

People I'd like to game with—Vince and Meguey Baker, since they invented the style of TTRPG that I most enjoy right now, and I'm currently running an Apocalypse World: Burned Over campaign. They have other priorities right now though: https://www.drivethrurpg.com/en/product/480847/meguey-baker-vs-cancer-bundle

30. Person you'd like to game with. Kelsey Dionne would be pretty cool to game with, prob in a game of Shadowdark. What she managed to do, making a game so familiar to 5e and yet so different and it's own thing is pretty amazing. And she seems like she'd be great to be at a table with. #RPGaDay2024

#RPGaDay2024 Day 30
I’d like to game with my younger brother more. When I lived near him, we enjoyed a biweekly low-fantasy swashbuckling #GURPS game with my wife, based on Tales of the Left Hand by John Meagher. But then I moved far away, both in physical space and time zone, and he has a small child now. Remote play is hard to schedule and just not the same. 😢 When #Genesys came out, we remade the characters for a small follow-up adventure over a rare visit.

#RPGaDAY2024 Day 30 - Person you'd like to game with
Phew, I'd either pick a famous game designer (e.g. Robin D. Laws, Monte Cook, Luke Crane), or one of the Bill & Ted crowd (probably Napoleon or Socrates).

#RPGaDay2024 Day 30
Person you'd like to game with
Ivan Brett, of Season 1 of The Traitors UK, and now frequent guest on No Rolls Barred; seems like a fun, energetic GM/player who vibes with a lot of my own likes in RPGs. #ttrpg

Day 29 of the #RPGaDAY2024 challenge and I discussed a #TTRPG app that I have found helpful.
RPGaDAY2024 Day 29: Awesome App – TardisCaptain's Blog of Holding
https://tardiscaptain.com/2024/08/29/rpgaday2024-day-29-awesome-app/ -
During lockdowns, I regarded Roll 20 as an awesome app, for both 5e and Dungeon World campaigns. The DW character sheets and integrated rules were really well done.
We've now shifted to Discord with a custom bot that is easily customizable with whatever rules we are currently playing with. It works best for systems with named rules (e.g., the moves in PbtA games).

#RPGaDay2024 Day 29
Since #Genesys is my main #ttrpg for anything other than one-shots, the awesome app I’m highlighting is Genesys Ref, a web application for looking up rules and such. It has a lot of useful filters (such as which books your game uses, what tier talent you’re interested in, etc). You can use it to assemble your own customized GM screen of rules references, and there are some generators for things like gear or even settings.

#RPGaDAY2024 Day 29 – Awesome App
I'm going with something small, tidy and non-web based: TokenTool, a, well, tool to create tokens.
For VTTs you need them a lot, but they're also useful for character sheets and other documents, where you have standardized cutouts for NPCs or PCs.
Runs on every desktop system, and you can even drag PDFs to it, then select from the pages. Very convenient for creating a set of tokens from pre-published adventures.

Honorable mentions: Helden Software (basically mandatory for The Dark Eye 4E), shadowdarklings.net, Foundry, Emacs

29. Awesome App. I use apps minimally, but there can be a place for them. The Fang Fantasy Name Generator app has come in handy a time or two. Also, I've used 5e Treasure Generator at some points. #RPGaDay2024

#RPGaDay2024 Day 29
Amazing anecdote
Playing a game where angels carrying out God's orders to bring about the apocalypse, involved a phone call to a senior civil servant at home one evening. While the phone call thrashed out the details of how England would prevail, something else could be heard getting thrashed in the background 😉 The moment that broke the table up was when the civil servant said to whoever they were with, "Oh, don't cry Rishi, you know the safeword!" #ttrpg

#RPGADay2024 Day 4: RPG with great art
I love the art for the Vaesen RPG. It's evocative. It has an opinionated style. It's mostly (all?) by the same artist, Johan Egerkrans, so it is cohesive and imposes itself onto the game, influencing how the game is received and played.
I love that.
Similarly, I love the art in Knave 2e by Peter Mullens. The art in that slim tome makes me want to play THAT game.

Day 7: GOOD FORM
My favorite form of #TTRPG book is digest sized. Games like #Knave2e and #Shadowdark where I can hold the book in my hand while I move a mini or draw a map. #RPGaDay2024

06 - Easy to use?
I can't think of any game that is easier to use and to learn than #ForTheQueen and most other #DescendedFromTheQueen games (including #VivaLaQueerBar and #AgainstTheMonster ). Draw cards, answer questions, magic happens!
Beyond GM-less games, I still think #BrindlewoodBay offers great support for both the GM and the players.

1. First RPG bought this year.
The first, and so far only, #RPG, that I have bought this year is Knave 2nd Edition by #BenMilton (aka #QuestingBeast).
So far I am using it as a side step from the Cairn 1e RPG.
Both games scratch a similar itch for me and I like them both.

20240801 - first purchase this year
#ThousandYearOldVampire. It wasn't in my Christmas presents, so it was my first purchase this year. Boy, expensive, but haven't looked into it more than to see that it's a really pretty book. I brought it to my summer vacation.
