There should be a word for the peculiar discomfort of running a Linux distro while already knowing the one you're going to switch to, but can't yet due to having to make sure everything is backed up.

Warum hat es #systemd eigentlich nach ALL DEN JAHREN noch immer nicht auf der Kiste, dass bei einem Fehler auch eine Rückmeldung an der Konsole kommt?
Konkret: Config-Fehler im Perdition, `systemctl (stop|restart) perditon` tut... NICHTS.

Does anyone know whether #Devuan is still actively maintained? I am trying to install a fresh system (Thinkpad T14s, 2.5 years old) and all the different install methods and media have different issues that prevent a clean install 🙄

Have been using my #TuxedoComputers laptop (InfinityBook Pro 14 AMD) much more while on holiday and it just works and lets me get stuff done. Admittedly I installed Alpine instead of the stock OS (am sure that is fine I just have other requirements to hit like #NoSystemd ) Anyway, very happy to far @[email protected]

@cherti: #Debian Unstable on most desktop-ish devices. Debian Stable releases on all servers.
An occasional #Kali (Debian Testing based) here and there and, if I really need some of their Python stuff, Raspberry Pi OS (Debian derivative on armhf, add-on repo on arm64), despite I clearly prefer Debian on the Raspi, too.
Also one IPv6-only #Devuan VM at @ungleich for getting a feeling for Devuan. Still prefer #SysV or #OpenRC on Debian. #nosystemd
#SailfishOS (RPM-based) on the mobile phone.

In #devuan und #debian schreibe ich Änderungen in `/etc/default/PACKAGE` gerne so rein:

VAR1="foo bar baz"
VAR1="${VAR1} qux quux"
```Warum? Damit ich beim Package-Update sehr einfach nachvollziehen kann, welcher Teil aus dem Package kommt und was ich daran geändert habe.
Offensichtlich hab ich das gerade zum ersten Mal mit #nosystemd gemacht - denn jetzt fliegt mir der Service beim Start um die Ohren, weil `${VAR1}` kein gültiges Argument ist... ACH?!?
Update 1: Das Original-VAR1 ist natürlich überschrieben.
Update 2: Er sortiert offensichtlich auch noch die Argumente um, denn `${VAR1}` steht nun am Ende und nicht an der Stelle, wo es laut `ExecStart` stehen sollte... es gibt auch keine Dienste, wo das ggf. wichtig wäre, *WO* ein Argument steht... -

Neu und neu - das passt nicht immer! Neuer Lappi und neuer USB-stick und mein neues Linux findet den usb nicht???
Hab' ich noch nie gesehen, sowas!Was stellt sich raus? Stecker und Buchsen sind noch total stramm und der Stick war einfach nicht richtig eingesteckt!
Die einfachste Lösung war's mal wieder.Hätte mich auch gewundert, bin doch mit ordentlicher Software unterwegs.

Arbeite mich so langsam in void-linux und xbps ein. Gefällt mir sehr - habe meine lieblings-Oberfläche und kann alles mögliche einzeln nach Wunsch installieren. Xbps ist sehr exakt und flott. Macht definitiv Spass.

Sooo: void-linux ist drauf...auf dem neuen Lappi!
Ok, ich hab' ein bischen gemogelt und die Platte vorher partitioniert und dann das xfce-iso benutzt - aaber es hat super geklappt und das install-skript ist wirklich easy!
Jetzt fühle ich mich wieder gut. Vorher hab' ich nach Jahren mal wieder ein ubuntu probiert - das ist einfach nicht meins: Ein Glück, das wir bei Linux eine vernünftige Auswahl haben!#Linux #noSystemd #install #xfce #void-linux
