You'll learn a lot in a series of classes, and plenty of places sell refurbished machines for a good price. I'm looking at the cushion covers that I made 7 or 8 years ago, and now, my wardrobe is almost entirely #MeMade. I've spent a lot on classes during that time, but I count that cost as medicine for my brain, rather than as the cost of my clothing. It's very satisfying to avoid clothing stores and malls for the most part. Enjoy your journey!

I love the effect, and I'd certainly invest if I had the money and space for it. I'm just really happy that my sewing has progressed to a point where I'm wearing an almost entirely #MeMade wardrobe. I'm trying to be careful about not buying more than I need, with only limited success. But, I never really enter shopping malls or clothing stores, so that's a win! -

Haha, I'm currently wearing my #MeMade bamboo jersey tank top, and I'm very satisfied with the feel of the fabric, as well as the only-slightly-wonky neckline that I sewed with ribbing and my ordinary sewing machine (triple-stitch). I'll seek out more of the same when this wears out, but I suspect that will be a while.

I just finished this dress! :)
(I love sewing pockets on dresses, POCKETS ARE POWER)It’s the Solstice Dress from Folkstead(.com). Wonderful pattern! This is my second one, the first was a very wearable toile. This pattern goes from XXS to 5X and isn’t a complicated sew, would be good for beginners.
Edited to add: the bottom hem is the selvage! I love pretty selvages and it hurts me to cut them off “just because,” so I try to incorporate them wherever I can!

Adventures in sewing. I'm most of the way through a very nice mid-length paneled skirt in a lush moss green. Perfect for winter in Sydney.
Just inserted the waist elastic and I don't love it. I don't love it in the same way I didn't love the last gathered skirt I made: the elastic is too big.
I'm a very experienced seamstress, but for historical clothing. So elastic is new to me. I could unpick the elastic, cut 3 inches out of it and re-gather it. OR. I can just put in a drawstring. The lo-fi historic method. From my extensive stash of twill tape. And I know it will give me a good, sturdy fit.
Here's hoping that works, or I'll have to pick the entire waistband and pleat it in.
Whichever way what I've learnt from years of sewing is to not settle for something I don't love, or I won't wear it and then it's all a waste of time.

#MeMadeMay and
#The100DayProject
Continuing to wear #MeMade clothes every day in some sort of combination, and I'm doing little #sewing projects most days for my 100 days. I got to sew with one of the local groups on Friday, and on Thursday, I walked my sister through the steps for making a quilted zipped pocket for glasses, charging cords, or anything else that a person needs to protect and find quickly. The red zipped pocket was given to one of the quilters who keeps sharing her stash. -

#MeMadeMay Feel free to mute this hashtag if you aren't interested. Most of my wardrobe is no #MeMade at this point.
Today's look is a mockneck Dawson Top from Helen's Closet, paired with linen shorts sewn with the Chanterelle Pants pattern from Sew Liberated. Both were pretty easy makes, using fabric I loved. Of course, I immediately splashed my top with a slightly greasy soup. A reason why I often choose print fabrics. The linen was bought in Korea.

I (finally) finished making this top today. It's a wearable toile, testing an adaptation of a dress pattern with darts into a more boxy top to go with skirts or trousers.
The trim has been in my stash for ages, so is nice to finally have it on something.
The UFO is now an FO!!

Fabulous makes!! The top pattern is a perfect match with your hair, and the pocket bags are delightful. Enjoy wearing your #MeMade outfit.

Day 4: add an extra hemline to a shortened rayon batik skirt. Another woman from my sewing group gave me multiple rayon garments that were too big for her. They blend nicely with my #MeMade wardrobe but minor adjustments are needed. One more task is complete.

Sewed my #QuiltCoat lining first to check fit
I’m happy with the length. A little surprised at the amount the lapels will open, glad I didn’t add any design elements at the top. It’s a bit bunchy around the armpits, but it’s basically a giant T so I didn’t really expect ideal fit there anyway
Excited to quilt the quilt part now - going to use Thermore batting so it’ll 🤞🏻 drape really nicely

I've learned from anywhere and everywhere that I could, over the last few years. I learned basics in Home Ec classes, way back in my school years, and I sewed for my adult kids when they were little. As I've retired, sewing has become a passion, and my wardrobe has gradually become #MeMade. I had the best luck once I had thrifted fabrics, instruction, and simple patterns. I use YouTube when I absolutely have to, but video instruction isn't my favourite. Most quilting and fabric shops have some classes. Start with fun and easy projects like bags and pillow coverings, until you develop confidence with the machine and other tools. -

My current goals for 2026 involve maintenance, since I've developed a number of practices that are really serving their purpose. So, I plan to:
-Keep #sewing my #MeMade wardrobe, utilizing modifications and techniques that are working well for me.
-Continue with #LanguageLearning in #한국어 #Korean, using a variety of learning materials and opportunities. I hope to have a 3-sentence dialogue with Korean speakers within the next couple of months.
-Keep using my #AppleWatch stand reminders to do various household tasks, including dishwashing.
-Continue monitoring my eating, BP, and exercise, with an intention of continuing to lose weight without hunger or deprivation.
-Keep planning #travel with a multi-week #camping #roadtrip, within Canada. Continue to plan towards a return #korea trip in 2027.
-Join social and volunteer activities with like-minded people at least weekly.
-Keep reading at least 2 books/month.
-Continue watching and sharing #kdrama, with a goal of understanding.

Thanks!! I'm currently faffing about, as the Brits would say, because it's my sew day an hour away, and I have allergy symptoms disturbing my morning and making my head spin. I'll wait a bit longer before deciding whether to make the journey. The days are so productive once I get there!
I've had #sewing inspiration lately because several young women have gushed over my #MeMade clothing! One of them told me that my style rocks! I definitely don't have a cookie-cutter look.
Classes are quite pricey, but taking them really keeps me on track with my makes, helping me to solve the inevitable problems that arise. Hope you find a way through the obstacles to your sewing. -

That looks great! I wear a #MeMade wardrobe almost exclusively now, and have ventured into quilt-as-you-go, so there may be a quilted #MossJacket somewhere in my future!

Of the ten garments I'm wearing today I made five (counting a pair of socks as one garment). My grandmother made a sixth (approx 22 years ago) and my aunt a seventh (approx 18 years ago).
Of the remaining three garments, one was bought second hand, one from an ethical clothing company, and one from a cancer fundraiser.
I'm happy with the direction my wardrobe is moving in. Also I am nice and warm, wearing four wool garments (three knitted, one crocheted) and two of flannelette.
