I went downstairs to start another Solstice Dress, but then remembered I'd set aside two old pinafores to mend. Both of them are the Verity Hope Pinafore, that I made maybe 10 years ago now? Wild to think they're that old.
I liked them so much that I wore the freaking heck out of both dresses, patched then, etc. Anyway today I made them both into tops, and now I LOVE THEM! They're loose so obviously a tank underneath is necessary, but I love the layered look, and the swish is perfect.
I added a big heart to the black one. ❤️
If you dig this but don't want to hack the Verity Hope pattern, the Solstice Dress from Folkstead has a top option that looks lovely.

(I love sewing pockets on dresses, POCKETS ARE POWER)It’s the Solstice Dress from Folkstead(.com). Wonderful pattern! This is my second one, the first was a very wearable toile. This pattern goes from XXS to 5X and isn’t a complicated sew, would be good for beginners.
Edited to add: the bottom hem is the selvage! I love pretty selvages and it hurts me to cut them off “just because,” so I try to incorporate them wherever I can!

while trying to pack last night I figured I had time to make a statement skirt. this took about 4 hours (because I don't have a serger, I just trim and overlock). measured the pocket to fully hide my phone, got a good tip on pocket placement from bernadette banner. photos on tuesday or wednesday, might wear this to my quick hosting gig!

Hey hey #sewing folks, where do you donate pre-printed patterns that you aren’t going to use? I’m talking the big rolls one gets from the plotter places, not small folded enveloped patterns. I hate to trash these.

Hey hey #sewing friends, just a note that Matchy Matchy Sewing Club has denim linen right now, something I've rarely seen over the years and it might be perfect for someone's garment project (the Indigo Herringbone is so pretty!)
It isn't cheap at $28/yard, but I know some sewists can wring a lot from a yard or two, so I figured it could be useful to share.

But in good news, my wedding outfit is coming along! This was earlier and a lot more done today, but I didn't get a pic. Tomorrow will be finishing up a few things on the top, and getting the top and bottom attached. I only have a few more days, but I'm so happy with how it's looking! #sewing #weddingdress #sewingclothes

Lesson of the day: if you take apart a piece of clothing to use as a pattern, iron the pieces before use. Yes, even when it's any kind of knitted cotton. (I may even starch them a bit.)

I was just trying to sew a top (the Ashton from Helen's Closet) and got to the burrito method part of the facings and I just couldn't visualize what the instructions were telling me. I'm so incredibly grateful to YouTubers who make videos about techniques like this, it's always immediately clear once I see it in action.

Working on mending some memade blue linen pants. The original linen is so thin and cheap (I think this might have been a wearable toile from 2017 or so) that I ought to just chuck them, but I kind of love these pants so I’m just practicing my patching skills on them. There are at least three more holes so this’ll give me something to do tomorrow, lol. #sewing #sewingclothes #mending #mendingmay #fiberarts #fiberartsfriday
