  1. Moin am #TassenFreitag. Ich habe mir die Woche einen praktischen 5V/300W-Tassenwärmer für die Werkstatt repariert 🥰

  2. Time for a model railway update.

So I need extensive 12v and to a lesser extent 16v and 5v power all around the layout - here’s my solution.

A small form factor PC case, a pair of Meanwell PSUs for 5v and 12v, and an adjustable PSU for 16v (that’s for the Kadee uncouplers).

Mains power comes into one set of terminals and is split three ways. An Earth goes to the chassis. I’ve got good quality 24/0.7 from the power supplies to another set of terminals.

  3. Here a comparison of the old #powersupply and the replacement.
I already cleaned the old board, removed two rusted diodes, and unsoldered the ICs, but there might be more defective components, that's why I decided to replace it with something completely different.
Still unsure if I'll leave the cable binders for keeping it in place.

  4. After getting the #Commodore #C64 and #C128 running again, the next device to repair is the #C1571.
It had #corrosion and #rust on the main board and the power supply is beyond repairworthiness. I'd replace the latter with a #meanwell RD-35 with 5 and 12 volt output.
One #diode was rusty, a few traces needed #cleaning and five #resistor looked bad. Hope the black hybrid chip is still okay.
Sadly, the lower read head seems to be broken, my work might've been in vain.

  6. I attend the local #repaircafe to fix #electronic stuff for some time now. Until now, I brought a big pile of boxes with a collection of test equipment I took from my #lab. But: it takes time to set up the desk, the stuff is heavy and bulky, there is limited space and it always ends in a mess of wires and tools. So I got a nice alumnium suitcase used by #Siemens #servicetechniker back in 1997, some #MeanWell power supplies (48V and 24v and 12V), a mains power meter, a DJ gooseneck LED light, a #dps5005 , an electronic load module, a USB C PD and USB A QC truck outlet (24V) with power measurement and a mains outlet. And a circuit breaker. So basically the suitcase will house all power supply and measurements needs, a TS100 soldering iron, portable scope, Multimeter, mini Laptop, quicktest, ESD mat, ... I hope this will make the whole experience less messy and way simpler.

The attached pic shows all the electrical stuff in a "dry test".

  11. On here we go. #3dprinter power supply upgrade. Taking my Creality Ender 5 Plus and replacing the stock power supply with a 600w #MeanWell unit purchased through #Mouser.
